What exactly does this mean when referring to a room?

Dedicated means there are no connecting doors to other rooms.

Many one-bedroom units have connecting doors to the studio next door. That way they can create a two-bedroom unit (called a two-bedroom lockoff). A dedicated one bedroom has no connecting door to a studio. A dedicated studio has no connecting door to a one-bedroom.

A dedicated two-bedroom unit is just that. The second bedroom does not have the kitchenette. The second bedroom does not have its own entrance door. And all the phones ring together. And in some cases I believe the second bedroom has a different furniture configuration.

A two bedroom lockoff is a one bedroom and studio combined. The second bedroom (the studio) has its own entrance door. If you ask for a wake-up call for the main unit (the one-bedroom) the phone in the second bedroom does not ring. And the second bedroom has a kitchenette.

Another important little dynamic about dedicated vs. lockoff 1/2BRs has to do with location. At certain DVC properties (noteably VB), asking for the latter type gives you a better shot at getting a preferred view. That has to do with the fact that -- in the interest of booking flexibility -- the architects for some of the DVC resorts always put a large number of lockoff one bedrooms/studios next door into preferred view areas.

Some dedicateds (though not all) have two queens in their second bedroom, while lockffs usually (except at OKW) have a queen and a full pull out.

BWV has no dedicated two bedrooms, they are all lockoffs.

Lockoffs add flexibility to the resort for member services. And we have enjoyed having them when we have adults traveling with us - they get their own "room" with their own exterior door and kitchenette. But a lot of people find them troublesome with kids - which they don't particularly want having their own exterior door.....
