We currently have a one bedroom AKV Kidani reserved for December. We'd like for our friends that currently have SOG booked to be able to stay with us in a two bedroom at AKV Kidani so we will WL a two bedroom. But now we need to decide which one or just WL both and take the luck of the draw?

Is it better to get a dedicated two bedroom or a lock-off two bedroom? What are the advantages to one over the other?

TIA

The lock off will be a one bedroom unit and a studio with a connecting door. The dedicated will have only one entry door. The lock off studio portion will have its own small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker, the dedicated portion will not.

With another couple, for more privacy I think the lockoff is better. With young kids, I prefer only one escape route so the dedicated works better. You would have a better chance of your waitlist coming through if you don't pick a specific type.

I would get the lock-off. They would have their own entrance door, A/C thermostat, and internet connection.

I had this same question. We are planning our Summer 2010 and want to take my mother along with us. We will be requesting a 2 bedroom Villa. I honestly don't care what we get, but it seems like the lock-off would be better for us. Mom will have to go to dialysis 3 times while we are there, and if she has her own coffee maker and door, she wouldn't have to worry about bothering us. (not that we would mind).

Should I just ask for a 2 bedroom when requesting the room and take what we get, or should I ask for the lock-off from the begining?

Request a lock-off when you make a reservation. At some resorts it's a guaranteed category.

At AKV you can WL a lock-off or a dedicated so I'm thinking it is definitely a booking category. We WL'd both and will be happy with either but we'd prefer a lock-off.

I booked a 2BR at Kidani for our April 2010 trip. Before the CM gave me my confirmation number, I asked that she note a request for a lock-off. She told me that lock-offs and dedicateds are guaranteed booking categories and she had to "redo" my reservation. I now have a reservation that states "2BR L/O Std Kidani" on my confirmation.

Since we are travelling with my parents, we had 2 options. We could do the dedicated and put DH, me and the 2 kids in the second bedroom and let mom and dad have the master. The other option would be to let DH and I have the 1BR portion of the lock-off and let mom and dad have the studio. Since mom and dad have a queen bed at home and we have a king, I much prefer the master bedroom. With the lock-off, mom and dad will have more floor space since they won't need to set up the sleeper sofa. They will also have their own kitchenette and entrance which will come in handy since they are early risers.

If we ever do 2BR with just the four of us, I would prefer the dedicated. Unfortunately, our little contract will only allow us 2BR's in value category and they are all lock-offs. Oh well....it's still AKV!:cloud9:
