Are there any home decorating trends from the '80s or '90s that you didn't care for? For me, it was the artificial flower arrangements on the walls. It seemed like our house had them on every single wall.

We were looking at photos of a house that a coworker is purchasing and the house was decorating in the late '80s or early '90s and I didn't realize how much decorating styles had changed since then.

Those white kitchen cabinets with the wood trim :crazy2:
Tri-mirrors on the walls and formica furniture (I think that's what it was)

Yes, a "Euro-Style" cabinet. We remodeled our kitchen in 1985 and those cabinets were "the bomb" back then. I still have them and hate them with a red hot passion. :sad2:

Shiny Brass!!!!!!

When we bought our house all the fixtures in it were bright shiny brass. I swear I don't care if it ever comes back I will never own anything brass ever!!!!

All of it.

The pastel pink, beige, blue, and green patterns that looked vaguely airbrushed that usually graced upholstery, wallpaper, and linens. But these looked oh so good when paired with those dusty fake flowers.

The white cabinets with the wood trim. Along the same vein, the white furniture with the brass stripe.

Those big bright bulb lights in a row above the bathroom mirror.

The general architecture, particularly in commercial and public/government buildings. (What did they have against windows?)

Pink carpet, hunter green carpet, floral wall paper,
floral couches. Like hair---decor seemed to be big
and over the top.

Ick!

The Southwest Style tops my list of the best of the worst from that era.

OT but love the Simon LeBon pic!!!! :goodvibes

Hate box valances and the swag curtains that look like the inside of a coffin.

Thanks! I've been getting that a lot lately :goodvibes

OT again (SORRY)! but reading a great book, might want to check it out. It's called Talking to Girls about Duran Duran by Rob Sheffield.

Yes, and also hate the white/wood cabinets along with anything hunter green and mauve.

Oh yes - totally ick. Weren't peach & gray, lavendar & sage, and mauve & gray really big in the 80's?

And dusty rose/dusty blue rooms with those big ruffly curtains.

*shudder*

omG yes!! I had an apartment back in 1988 that was almost ALL MAUVE.. or dusty rose as I called it. Even my toilet paper was that color.

I remember my mother coming to visit me and asking how did I find so many things the SAME EXACT COLOR?? :lmao:

I also DON'T MISS:

Glass block walls
Faux finishing on EVERYTHING
Floral couches
Stencils
Fake Ivy EVERYWHERE...

BUAAAHAHAHAHA! :lmao:

My house looked exactly like that. And it was quite fashionable, I'll have you know.:lmao:

I have the peach walls and the row of bulb light fixture in my main bath! It was like that when we bought...cannot wait to remodel! We're also replacing all the antique brass throughout our house...it's everywhere!

Our condo at the lake was built in the 80's. We ripped out the hunter green carpet the day we closed! I am still living with the lovely white cabinets with wood trim and the landing lights in both bathrooms! Someday soon they will be gone too! I will live with it until I have the time and budget to change it. One thing about those cabinets I can clean them really easily - just spray them with 409 and wipe them off.

What about kitchen chairs with wheels?

The pics on this thread remind me of an episode of Golden Girls.

The big thing in now is granite countertop and I have this crazy vision that 20 years from now, it will look extremely dated.
