Most of the fixtures in my new home (lights, switchplates, etc.) are brushed nickel. But my old art work (and my living room lamps) is all framed in bronze and gold. Is it okay to mix and match metals from a decorating standpoint? I'm happy to buy new, just want to make sure it doesn't look tacky...

Absolutely. Matchy matchy is OUT! Complementary and coordinating is in.

That said, shiny old school gold can look dated but that is a matter of the piece not that it doesn't match.

Nothing shiny here - it all looks aged and ornate.

Thanks, Dis-ers!!

I probably wouldn't worry about it but if it bothers you most hobby stores carry something called Rub N Buff that can change the metallic color of the frame. Or you could always spray paint it a different color.

We had a few rooms in our house decorated a few months ago and the decorator refused to match anything. I always assumed that it must be matchy-matchy but it looks great. Have different finishes in all shapes and sizes. I'm sure yours looks wonderful.

If you like the way it looks, then that's all that matters. You're the one who is living with it. Personally, I've never been a "set" kind of person. I look for complimentary not matching.
