We are preparing to remodel the kitchen and the new cabinets will be natural cherry. Should the kitchen table be cherry as well?:confused3 (I feel kind of silly asking, but....)

I think it depends on how the room is set up. Is the floor plan open and flowing? Or is the room a closed in kitchen?

I have an open floor plan and my cabinets are honey oak but my kitchenette table is chocolate. I think it looks ok mainly because my family room is right off from my kitchen and I have dark cherry wood in it.

I'll take a pic if you want.

That's very nice of you. My kitchen is somewhat closed off though. And not very big. I was just wondering how it would look if the table I have (or get) is, say oak wood.

Our Cabinets and Floor are Darker then our Table and Chairs

I would get a set of painted furniture especially if you're kitchen is closed off to other areas. All cherry would get to be a bit overwhelming.

Granted we have a huge kitchen & breakfast room, but our cabinets are painted cream (they were actually pickled when we moved in, which I hated :( ). The floors are antique oak, came out of railroad freight cars, and our table is pine in the reddish honey stain. Countertops are olive slate and tropic brown granite, walls are deep olive and golden yellow, with wallpaper in the breakfast room a grwwn marble and goldish yellow leather. Think we have a lot going on? Add in some antique pieces to the mix and you have our hodge podge decor. It works for us though. If it wasn't such a disaster right now I'd take a picture for you. I say pick what you're happy with and make it work for you. I'd love cherry cabinets but it would cost probably $6K-$8K to rip out our cabinets and replace them, so I made it work. Good luck and let us know what you come up with!

Maybe a table with a wood top in a brownish/red cherryish stain with black legs and black upholstered chairs would blend. I've been seeing a lot of that type of combination lately.

We just redid our kitchen. I have mahogany cabinets and decided to put black knobs on the doors/drawers. With that we have granite with some black in it. THe black and the mahagony gives the kitchen a dressy look, which I was aiming for. We bought black stools for the counter and a glass table and black leather chairs. It all blends, Its very hard to find wood colors that match. We tried and went crazy in the process. The glass table took care of that problem for us.

I'd love to get a glass table but I wouldn't dream of it with 3 very messy kids (well, to be fair, my dd isn't bad, it' THE BOYS!):headache:

You have to be careful when mixing woods in the same room.

I ahve oak cabinets in my kitchen and a lot of them. I chose a farm table...the legs arepainted white with the oak top. The cahir legs and back are painted white, with oak seats. I just felt like the white broke up the oak a bit, and my kitchen is self-contained, not one of those flowy great room effects that we are seeing so often today, which BTW, I just love!

With cherry cabinets, i woudl stay with something in the cherry family...golden oak will probably be too much of a contrast. A PP suggested a table with a cherry top and painted bottom...what might be pretty is acherry top with a silvery-gray painted bottom, and chairs with silvery-gray legs and back and cherry seats.

Maybe some black metal?

I agree that there could be too much cherry. We have wood floors and maple kitchen cabinets. I never considered how they would look together - to me it seems as if the floor continues right up the walls. Not too bad - just wish I had thought about breaking it up.

We redid our kitchen a year ago, and it's open to the family room. The new cabinets are honey maple and our cherry kitchen table does look out of place to me. Can't decide whether to go with maple to "match" or something different however....

I have cream colored cabinets, dark oak hardwood floors, dark (appears black in photos) granite countertops and painted breakfast table set, with a light oak top.

I currently have this:

It bothered me at first, but now I've gotten used to it. It's actually not the oak top that I don't like though; it's the color of the chairs and the table legs.

This one is calling my name though, and it's going to be my next purchase:

My kitchen is open to my living room, and we have black tables in there, so I think it'll pull it all together.

My kitchen exactly.....but I went with a counter height solid black table (I ordered it thru Canadel) with stainless Emco navel chairs....which compliment the stainless appliances and aren't as *cold* looking as it may sound....I use the black stools from the counter for extra seating when needed.

I can totally see how the color of the chairs would bother you with the color of the kitchen. AND - I think that other set is fabulous and would look so good with your kitchen!! :thumbsup2

Yeah, the table and chairs existed before we remodeled the kitchen. It never dawned on me that they would clash, but boy did they!

The black table set, actually does with my bathroom vanity of all things! :)
