Decorating in your on-property room? On the door?

We're staying on property at Disneyland for the first time. Having one room will be hard (we usually stay at the Embassy Suites South) I'm hoping the "magic" will be worth it.

I'm also wondering what fun little things we can do to our room or the door to make it seem even more fun. Like on a Disney Cruise where you decorate your door - can you do anything like this for the room? Is there any kind of window that looks into the hallway that you could put things in (like at some resorts at Disneyworld)?

I just think it would be fun to decorate and put up some things with my daughter. Thanks!

We always decorate our windows while staying at WDW. I have only stayed on property once at DL, but have visited the resorts each trip. I don't recall ever seeing a decorated window.

I'm sure you can do it but I have yet to see a window decorated at the GCH, DLH, or PPH and I've stayed at all 3, more than once.

Well I don't mind being the first! Do any windows look out into the hallway or walkway? I'm not sure if anyone would see decor if it was on the big window...

out of curiosity, how do yall decorate the doors and windows...like, what do yall put up?

If you do a search on the WDW side of the boards you will be amazed. A few years ago I ran across a thread with pictures of what they do at WDW and I was so surprised. I had never heard of this. People bring glass markers, magnets, window clings, Christmas lights, stuffed animals, etc. I'm actually amazed people have that much room in their suitcases for all that stuff. :confused3 Then, of course, debates occur about what things to put up that don't mess up the walls. I've never seen that at DLR- at least looking up at the windows from the ground. Personally, I just use the room to sleep in and don't pay much attention to it otherwise.

This is a silly part of our WDW trips. I would love to blame it on the kids, but when we went as 4 adults, we did it too.
We bring magnets to hold stuff on the door.
We have lights in the window.
We also put our newly acquired toys or stuffed animals in the window (none of these on the adults only trip).

I don't think the window thing will work on-site at Disneyland, as I don't think there are any windows in the hall. You could do some minor door decorating though. You could do something for your window if you will be on a lower floor I guess.

We usually stay off-site at Disneyland, so we have windows to decorate :)
Also, we always put a little sign in our window that says something about Disboards and our user names, in case there are other Dis'ers there.

Kimara, we usually stay off site too - this will be the first time for us staying on property. I'm wondering if the doors at Paradise Pier are Metal or not - would magnets work??

Since most people that decorate at WDW are in values, and none of the onsite DLR hotels would be in that category so it really isn't done much if at all. All of the hallways are interior and you really can't see the windows walking through the resorts unless you are a low level resort room at DLH or a DTD view room at GCH. I'm not sure about PPH.

If you do want to decorate your hotel room, you might want to jump over to the Creative DISign forum here... http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105

I have seen people there make banners that can be printed at home then hung up inside the room. People will make magnets for the doors, t-shirt designs, just about anything. There are a lot of people who have many designs that you can choose from. It might be worth a look and if you cannot find what you want, want a specific character or something even personalized with your names on it, you can always ask. I've had quite a few things done for me and it's 100% free. Amazing work being done by amazing people.

Have fun decorating and your trip to DLR. :cool1:

We love decorating our windows at WDW. We have stayed in all levels there and always decorate. I especially love Halloween and Christmas time. I use led lighting, window decals, etc. There is usually good Disney items at Walgreens. I make a small banner with a cute saying and where we are from. The kids put our towel animals and stuffed animal purchases on the window sill.

I can't wait to decorate for my WDW trip in December. I'm on the hunt for Christmas Disney items. It's always such fun!

I think I'll decorate our window for our surprise DL trip in 3 weeks! My kids will love it! :thumbsup2

I actually decorated my room when I stayed at DLH for the first time. The trip was for the friend I was with; it was her birthday. I went to our local party store before we left and grabbed a Happy Birthday banner, balloons, decorative ribbon, and some Disney birthday party things to decorate the room. We just blew up the balloons and hung them from the bed posts (this was before the remodel), hung the banner with stickers that wouldn't leave marks and just decorated as much as possible. It looked fantastic! We didn't put anything on the door but it sounds like a great idea!
