Decorating DVC doors like DCL doors

We are cruising for the first time this summer. I am getting into this decorating the cruise stateroom door. I was wondering if any DVCers decorate any of the DVC villa doors. I can't recall one being decorated but I do remember somebody had a balloon on their door handle.

Is anyone out there doing this?

TIA,

I've seen a few occassions where someone would put a photo on the outside of their door. I've seen this at BCV but I don't ever recall seeing it at BWV or VWL.

I think the only occasional decorations I've seen would be patio lights or a small tree at Christmastime.

Keep in mind that unlike the cabin doors on the DCL where there are places to 'hang' things, the DVC villa doors are solid. Magnets might work on steel doors, and of course tape would, but I'd hate to see a lot of people start taping things to their doors, especially if they didn't use 'removable' tape.

The cruise ship is nice because you walk past so many doors all the time just coming/going to your cabin. Doors at the DVC villas such as OKW or SSR would be seen by very few guests so that doesn't make much sense to 'decorate' them.

It might make a little sense in the 'inside' resorts which have internal hallways.

We decorate during Christmas to make it feel more like home.

We have never decorated our doors to the halls but, we have decorated the patio doors.:goodvibes I have bought those plastic stain glass kits. The kids really enjoy painting them. They come with the suction cup to hang on the door. I have found Mickey, Pluto, Minnie and various princesses at my local craft store.

On one stay we were at SSR on the ground floor so, our patio door was very visible.

Please, remember if your planning on using this as a craft during your stay - put newspaper down and supervise the activity. The paints can stain. :scared1:

Have a great time and be creative!

When we were there for Christmas, we used those cheap cardboard trees you can find at the party store....one on the door, one on the patio doors. We had 4 rooms and it made it easier for the kids to find all the rooms.

On our recent stay at OKW, the door to our room was covered in tape marks. Based on the outline, it looked like someone had taped a large poster to the front door and had used a lot of tape to hold it up. I felt really bad about it because it looked like the door had been painted fairly recently and it was quite a mess.

That's exactly why we don't do things like this in our real home, so we certainly wouldn't do it in our "vacation" home either. We have put up lights on the patio at OKW during the holidays, but only wrapped them around the rail with no tape or fasteners necessary. I wouldn't reccomend to anyone that they deface the resort in that way unless they are able to use magnets.

If anyone was interested in hanging anything on the doors, you can buy this blue tacky stuff (I know they have it at places like party city) that will hold up paper or plastic decorations and comes right off with no marks. We have had Cinderella's castle hanging on dd's bedroom door for 1 1/2 years with the stuff.

I am glad to read another poster express this. On the cruiseline boards, it is a BIG thing to decorate the doors. Some, like myself, feel this somewhat defaces the property, not to mention some look really tacky. However, it is allowed on the cruise ships. Sure hope it doesn't gravitate over to the DVC resorts. JMHO.

On the ships however the doors are metal and the decorations should only be done on magnetic paper or held up with magnets. Tape and anything else that would ruin the finish should not be used and is frowned upon by the cruise line.

On the DCL ships it is okay to decorate the metal doors with magnetic items. Adhesives (tape, glue, craft tack, etc.) are no longer allowed due to the damage to the door's painted surface.

Please don't make our owner's costs rise by using adhesives on the DVC villa doors. It makes the door unsightly afterwards and costs *US* money to clean or refinish the doors.

Thanx for understanding! :goodvibes

That's a great idea! We use magnetic hooks on our fridge from Home Depot so that would work for the front door and suction cup hooks would work for a window! It is wonderful to be excited about a Disney vacation but there are so many creative non damaging ways to decorate I really cannot understand why people could not put a little more effort into non marking stuff! :thumbsup2

We decorated our front door over the holidays with LGMHs in the shape of a wreath and other plain black MHs. Just remember that the humidity will make any paper curl up.

I may be unpopular for saying this, but I hope that all Disney resorts frown on decorating doors outside of the Christmas season. And even then I wish people would keep it tasteful. On the cruises I don't mind a sign or two on the door held with magnets. But some of those doors look like a Mardi Gras parade threw up on the door. I feel it really takes away from the atmosphere and décor of the ship. I can't imagine taking a stroll around OKW and seeing something like that trashing up the laidback atmosphere. Ok flame away. :duck:

I will align with the unpopular ones and state that I would not like to see doors being decorated with the exception of major holidays (ie 4th of July, T-Day, X-mas/ Hannakah, and Easter).

I don't usually decorate my door on cruises or at WDW. I am thinking about doing this for our Christmas trip. If I do bring down material to decorate my door with, than I will at least bring down something to clean up after myself. **and i get off my high horse**
