Declining daily housekeeping with DND signs gone

We have DVC, so we don’t usually need to worry about telling them no housekeeping. I don’t want my room cleaned. I know they have to do daily checks now, but don’t want my stuff moved, etc. This is our first stay in a non- DVC resort since the new policy. Before we just left our DND sign up all week.

Someone will visit your villa each day to remove trash. That SHOULD be the only cleaning they do if you have declined housekeeping altogether. I would not leave any valuables out or anything like that. There is no way to know what time they are coming, so you can't really plan to be there when they come in, unless you never leave the room at all. The sign is to let them know when you are in the room, as they try to come in while you are out if possible - it doesn't always happen that way though. It definitely does NOT mean DND, by any means.

I think you misunderstood- we aren’t staying in a DVC villa this time. We are staying in a non-DVC resort. I know what usually happens in DVC with daily trash, we just got home. But we don’t want daily housekeeping in our room in a non-dvc room

You should call housekeeping and when you arrive and let them know your preference.
There may or may not be daily visits after that, and you still might receive housekeeping anyway. It sounds like communication and consistency aren't their strong points.

I would either tell the desk at check in that you don’t want any housekeeping during your stay (they can make a note of it) or call housekeeping when you get to your room to make this request. Where are you staying? Some resorts are offering a gift card for those opting out of housekeeping.

Some resorts no longer have a housekeeping button on the phone. There’s just a general “guest services” button. If that’s the case, I would just go to the desk and inform them. I’ve found that to be a more practical way to request/inquire about things than calling a call center from my room.

Housekeeping... security checks... what's the difference.....? None. They are going to demand access to the room you are staying in, regardless. Stay offsite if having the staff access your room is a deal-breaker.

I would use the housekeeping button on your phone, and tell them you don't want daily housekeeping.

If you decline housekeeping someone else will enter your room to do the safety check. They shouldn't be moving your stuff around, but unfortunately I don't think anyone can guarantee that.

I think @wdw4rfam is alright with the daily security check. The question was just how to decline housekeeping since the room signs have changed. Previously, “do not disturb” made it apparent that housekeeping was not desired and could be used at any time. The new signs only tell housekeepers that the room is occupied so can’t really be used if the room is not occupied (at the parks or lunch or pool or whatever). So I think the question was more, what’s one to do if one doesn’t want housekeeping when the room isn’t occupied?

Unfortunately someone WILL enter your room, each day, regardless of if you decline mousekeeping. Just like at DVC someone now enters your room every day, same goes for resort rooms where occupants have declined mousekeeping. It is a security check and they will just come in to look that you aren’t doing anything illegal. I doubt they’d touch your stuff but always leave valuables secured or better yet leave any unneeded valuables at home.

Someone will come in the room each day in a regular room, but people who have reported security checks (as opposed to housekeeping)say it’s just a quick look around, but I still make sure I lock up my valuables. There is a lot of confusion between cast members regarding the new policies, and you will see people who stayed at the same resort at the same time having totally different experiences. There’s no way to really know for sure what your individual experience will be in advance.

I have stayed at Pop twice since the new policy, but I did not decline housekeeping. I secured my stuff, and left the curtains open when I left the room. I slept in until about 10:00am every day, and left the room about 11:00, and no one knocked while I was getting ready. I came back to a serviced room each day, even when I came back in the afternoon (like 4:00pm), so it felt like they were making an effort to come in while I was out. However, there is a post on the sticky from another poster who was there the same time I was in April, at Pop, and they were basically harassed the whole time they were there. It’s so inconsistent . . .

So apparently everyone missed the part where I said it’s not people enetering my room that I’m trying to avoid, just cleaning. Don’t want my stuff moved, cleaned, etc. I’m fully aware of the security checks.

You tell them when you check in. You can decline there. And some resorts will give you a small credit for it. I guess I figured that was common knowledge because declining mousekeeping has been a big topic on the boards as of late with the gift cards they're giving out. Just tell them at the front desk.

Thanks. That’s what I was looking for. I guess I’m out of the loop because we are DVC, so not used to having to worry about it. We usually split stay our DVC rooms too so we don’t ever get full room cleans. To me it was a major selling point. I don’t mind the daily room check. Just couldn’t stand when we used to stay and they’d come in, move all my stuff to clean.
