Declawing our kitty....

MsSpinShady - thank you for the reviews on softpaws!! I actually bought some today.

Thank you to everyone else for all the opinions, they were all very helpful. We are going to give the softpaws a fair shot and see how they work. We are going to try and put them on her tonight, if we can't do it I will take her to have them put on. Hopefully, they will do the trick.

thanks!

Jen

Good luck Jen, I hope they work for you! By the way, they did not bother our cat at all. He nipped at them a couple of times when they first put them on, and then didn't seem to give them another thought.

What surprised me was how durable they were. Even being outdoors everyday running and scratching and chasing poor critters around the yard, they stayed put. His fur is black so we put blue ones on so we would know when they started coming off.

Let us know how it goes!

We just put them on about an hour ago - got her while she was sleeping so she stayed calm. No problems at all putting them on, actually it was alot easier than I thought it would be.
She hasn't picked at them at all yet, and doesn't seem bothered by them at all.
I will have to order the colored ones.. all our pet store had was the clear ones. It would be so much easier to tell if they came off. And she can have pretty pink nails!!! :)

Just my 2 cents...not that I have any sense to give away...

I have purebred cats...I agreed not to declaw them when I was "allowed" to purchase them...yes I had to pass some "tests"....plus we moved to Germany where it is illegal anyways!

Mavric and Jadzia started having their claws clipped when they where babies...not an issue....Jadzia passed away and I became owned by a retired show cat...we do not clip her claws...she goes to the beauty parlor for that one...$10 every 3-4 weeks is less expensive than my nervous breakdown.

Now...I am a "life or limb" kinda girl. I know how many animals in my county are put to sleep each WEEK! If your kitty is rescued and you want to declaw them...better than what they faced....my opinion only!

Oh...and your DH...trust me...you can learn to sleep with a cat on your pillow...Mavric has been doing that for years!

Given the choice between declawing and inside only cat and allowing a cat to go outside....I vote for inside only....

Just thought I would chime in here!

Good luck....and I hope you let the baby come into the bedroom at night!
