I'm having a tough time pinpointing a Deck and stateroom for our May 2, 2016 Disney cruise to the Bahamas. As there are only 3 of us (2 adults/1 child), I am fairly set on the idea of a deluxe stateroom with verandah. I don't necessarily think we need the deluxe family as I don't know what value it truly adds other than a little extra space to sleep more. In my research I was thinking the higher decks as ease of access to the top (pool area), but no idea if that is wise or not as the little one (5 years old) will be spending time in the Oceaneer Club on Deck 5. We are seeking a somewhat quiet deck with easy access to elevators and/or floor changes. So, on to my questions....

What stateroom(s) would you recommend for a family of 3?
-Thinking starboard side for view of Castaway Cay at port
Can you select a specific Stateroom?
Should I look for a stateroom front, middle, or back?
What Deck would you recommend given the above information?
Can you request a specific Deck?

Boat movement won't be a problem (sea sickness)

I suspect I have more questions, but I think this would get me started. I have reserved the Passporters guidebook at the library for additional guidance. This is our 1st Disney Cruise, so trying to be sure to enjoy the Cruise by making a wise selection on Deck/Stateroom. I understand it may be difficult to suggest 1 specific room, so more looking for a range.

Thanks for any guidance.

I've inky stayed in inside rooms so can't help with specific verandah rooms. However, I can recommend decks 7-9, midship. We like those as they are more "in the middle of it all." It's easy to walk up a couple flights of stairs for the pools, down a few for kids clubs, restaurants, theaters, etc. We can't stand waiting for elevators, which is another reason for these decks, we can take stairs everywhere from our room. Also with just staterooms above and below, it's generally quiet.

I'd recommend Deck 7, mid-ship. It's 4 flights up to the pool deck, just 2 decks from the Oceaneers Club/Lab, and 3-4 flights from the theaters. The deluxe stateroom with veranda is a great choice. I was in 7568 on the Dream, which is a category 5C stateroom. Location was great and I loved having the veranda. When you book, you book a specific stateroom unless the category is already in GTY status, which means they've sold a certain percentage of rooms in that category and anyone that books after is guaranteed that category of stateroom or higher.

We booked 7520 on the Fantasy (but the room should be the same on the Dream) which was a 7A Navigators verandah and it was amazing. Because we were on deck 7 as opposed to higher up, the obstruction was virtually non-existent and the location was equal distance to the main decks of 3/4 for the restaurants/adult areas as it was to deck 11 for the pool and Cabanas. I highly, highly recommend this room, it was an excellent way to get a verandah and still save some money.

Some photos to give you an idea of the obstruction - it doesn't quite do it justice, I think the pictures make it seem like your view is smaller than it actually is:

Room location - note that the obstructed view get more severe the higher up you go

I love being deck 7 or higher. Midship is great, but we try to get on the highest deck in the specific category we like and go from there. For example, we are sailing deck 7 forward on the magic in January bc it was the only adjoining room of that category left.
