decisions ... decisions

If waiting another year is a possibility (meaning child will still be home, low risk of her having another near death etc) id wait. Not only for the current health risks, but because Disney isn’t back to pre covid. It’s not offering full experience.

If it was a real chance this could be a now or never I’d go as I’d want the memories.

I moved my December Disney trip to March (for now) because I don't think the hassles will be over. I now have Disney and cruises booked for March break, and one of them will happen. But I don't see us going before then with all the testing and such.

I do want to travel, we keep talking about how much we miss it. It really is getting to me. Even being able to fully plan something would help.

It is not an easy decision. I would hesitate to book anything non-refundable at the moment. As we have seen, things can change quite a bit in a few months.

Personally we will not bring the kids until they are vaccinated. This is due to possible illness and having to miss 2 weeks of school. Optimistic for March Break 2022. 🙂

Along with booking refundable flights, that means do not use air miles for flights as most of us know they are the cheapy fares that are non-refundable

I so feel for you - I know how special this trip would be for your daughter. We had an October trip planned but cancelled. One of our children was diagnosed with a chronic condition this summer and even here we’re terrified of catching it and passing it on to her so we knew we couldn’t handle going somewhere with higher numbers. It’s a very personal decision and not an easy one!

My family finally travelled in August for one week, and I've booked over Christmas for 2 weeks and in February because we have aeroplan points and dvc. We are fully vaccinated, and wear masks and sanitize all the time. We are comfortable going even with restrictions. My son really struggled at home these last 2 years mentally and having this to look forward to has been such a change in our home. I think going would depend upon what is considered existing health condition for your daughter. That may change what I would have done also.

I too have a December trip planned. This trip has been cancelled and moved forward numerous times over the past year and a half.
I haven't cancelled this December trip yet, but I'm not hopeful that we will be able to go. I always wait until about 30 days before and then make that decision.
It's so hard these days to know what is the right thing to do. Trust your gut.

I am so on the fence about our December trip. I read on the disboards and watch vloggers who have had successfull trips to Florida and think we can still go. Then I read the covid numbers in Florida and have second thoughts.

I’ve watched a lot of these vloggers too, but the ones I’ve seen are mostly locals. If they ever feel uncomfortable with the crowds, etc. in the parks or on property, they can easily just go home and come back another time. For us international travellers, we don’t have that luxury and although our flights are booked, we still haven’t booked our resort stay yet for our March 2022 trip. Those numbers need to drop way down soon or we will have to cancel yet again.

I didn't bother to book this year. Not DVC so no pressure to go other than pure love of the trip. I've been disappointed with all the takes from the WDW experience esp when paying for onsite resorts even POP or the AS. I understand the economics behind some of the decisions but others not so much. Also not comfortable getting on a plane for the flight to MCO and then riding the Disney buses multiple times a day. I have parents in their late 70s and as the eldest adult child have been helping out as much as possible. Really, the whole small family has been focused on helping one another out with everything from groceries to home repair and maintenance. Our family has never been so cohesive and strong. We still have arguments and differences of opinion but covid has certainly made us focus on what's important and that's family. Period. No one has traveled at all. But I know we are all ready for a break and a chance to stretch our wings.

Stressed out travel isn't a vacation for me. However, I've read trip reports from other on this forum with great interest and am relieved and happy for those who made it work. I'm so happy for others who have vacationed and returned safely. It gives me something tangible to hold onto for another year. I am hopeful for a WDW trip next fall but will have to see if its worth it. I suspect I'll be fine with the plane and the travel but maybe not with the value. If that's the case, then I'll be taking a hard look at Universal but also Europe. I enjoy planning so imagine I'll be doing some number crunching this winter.

We have a March 2022 booked at UO and are still hoping things stabilize more in Florida --- but realistically it's hard to see us wanting to go since the state still seems to view the virus as a political issue rather than health issue. A new variant could throw a wrench in the mix at any point --- but we REALLY hope it won't. Tourism is the main driver of the Orlando economy --- but as a tourist a Covid infection from a Florida vacation is NOT an option for us so I guess we'll see how this plays out though....

I just cancelled our Nov trip today. We're concerned that someone in the party would test positive for Covid and then not be allowed to board the plane to come home. This is 2 years in a row we've cancelled.
It broke my heart to do the same this week, likewise for second year in a row.

We may be getting to that point. We've also cancelled two years worth of vacations.

I've always been concerned about testing positive and not being able to get home. For our trip, we would need to be tested on the day of the cruise and if one of us test positive, it would be a bigger headache....

But now I'm concerned about one of us being positive and having serious symptoms and Florida doesn't seem to be equipped to handle more people with serious covid symptoms...I was never concerned about this in the past, but I really don't feel confident that we would have appropriate medical help should someone need to go to the hospital.

For me it would be a big no. Especially if I had a vulnerable/health compromised family member (which I do since my partner has diabetes). I'm in Victoria and we just had someone in our company get sick and test positive for Covid on Friday after he vacationed in Alberta the week prior. Now everyone he works near (we are a siding company, so he is an outdoor worker - whereas I work in the office nowhere near him) has to be tested. We will have to pay him for 3 days, but beyond that he will be out of pocket I'm assuming (don't really know how it all works). I doubt if this guy was even vaccinated, and he has little kids too. A lot of the guys in our company are not very smart about things.

Getting stuck because of a positive test was my #2 fear. And dvcdisney nailed #1, as well. The uncertainty of the availability of medical care for any serious emergency is the deal breaker.

while I could cry with disappointment, I will save those tears for all those whose lives have been ended or changed forever by this pandemic. My family and I are fortunate to be healthy in NS.

Yes to all this. Perspective. Cancelled trips are so hard, but they’ll come again.

We decided as a family the best decision for us is ...... to cancel :(

Yes, we are very sad/disappointed but the risk out weighs it all. Too many factors, add covid tests before and after plus the risk of what happens if ... we just can't! My DD is disappointed but our promise still stands ... SHE WILL RETURN to Disney <3

Thanks for all the replies ... I never posted this with any intensions for a debate ... more so as a personal thought or chat .. I enjoyed reading each response!

We are also from N.S. and are thankful to be covid free ... my DD continues to be our hero <3 Take care all
