Since I found out about CareerStart, I've planned on doing it. I've already got everything set up: application's ready, I've got letters of recommendation being written, I've arranged to graduate in December that way I can go down in February... all I need is for it to be September! There is one tiny problem, though...

Some opportunities have arisen that have me second-guessing going to Florida for the CareerStart program. My band is taking a trip to New York City in the summer, I want to be sure that I'll be able to be here for graduation and the banquet and the concert, and, the biggest thing, ENGLAND. I've wanted to go since I was in about the fifth grade, and it's finally come up that the community college I'm enrolled in is taking a trip to England for a few weeks next summer, and one of the classes I'll be taking is going. My parents think that I should forget about England and a little more time with friends and go on to Disney. I, however, think that I've made up my mind in the other direction. I mean, staying home will give me loads of extra work hours, which means more money for college, and I'll be able to take quite a few more college classes early.

What I want to know, though, is exactly how big a mistake I might be making. I mean, I plan on doing the College Program a few times, so it's not like I'll never work at Disney. But is there something I'm missing? Some reason to go down that I haven't thought of that would tip the scales?

CareerStart and College Program are relatively the same thing, so I see no reason why you can't, or shouldn't wait. Besides, I went to England just before my senior year of high school. It changed my life! International travel will do that... It's started the most-rewarding, though costly, trend of international travel. Since then, I've been to England, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Greece, France, Italy, Vatican, and Ireland.

I say...follow your heart. You only need one semester of uni to apply for the CP...

I say go for England. Its a huge opportunity, and like you yourself said, you plan on doing the college program, its not like you'll never work for Disney. And it will be an incredible experience.

Do what your heart tells you to. If you really want to go to England, then go! Otherwise, you'll highly regret it later in life.

I personally wouldn't bother doing CS if you're planning on doing CP later on, since I believe they have more roles open for the college program kids.

It sounds like you really want to travel, so I say go to England. Disney World will always be there and as others have mentioned, the CP might even be preferable to the CS because of roles available. Traveling international will give you some perspectives which will probably end up helping you when you're working at WDW, and give you some great material for your interviews.

It is whatever you want to do and what is best for you. But to me it sounds like you want to go to England, if you have the chance I would say go for it. Disney will be there, and if you are applying for the CP too then CS isn't as an immediate thing that you can only do once.

But really it is up to you and your family.

If you are planning on doing the CP, I would wait and go to England intead. :)

Thanks, guys. :goodvibes I've already made up my mind, but it's just convincing my parents that it would be an absolute shame to waste this opportunity. I'm working on it, though. I figure I'll get as much information and logical reasoning behind my decision as possible before I broach the subject again.
