having always gone for a package deal before I have been trying to work out which is the best deal diy or package.

We're not going until oct 2010 so I can't get flight prices yet but I am just wondering if anyone has a rough guess on how much we might pay.

I priced up a package with virgin 2 adults and 3 kids age 13,9 and 6, for 2 weeks. For the beach club or Fort wilderness its coming out at £6103 for everything(flights, 14 day tickets and DDP) we don't do cars.

With disney for contemporary it is £4039 for hotel and and tickets and Fort wilderness is £4277

So will I get flights for 5 of us for £2000 or do you think the package is a good deal. We would like to go direct as we will either have a 8 hr drive to Man or a flight to LGW.

It would be about the 7th oct give or take a few days

Hi I would interested in this answer too as I was going to ask a similar question, I have priced package with TCD for POR for 2 weeks inc dining ,flights cost is 3196 for 2 ads and 2 children 16 and 13 going from Glasgow , cost for doing accomm direct with WDW is 1302 with free dining so that makes flights 474 pp, do you think that is a good price ? going out 2nd October 2010, these are Virgin flights.

many thanks

No problem I didn't know virgin were doing flights from glasgow in oct, off to check that prices

just checked virgin and its nearly £1000 dearer from glasgow I'll stick with flying to gatwick

What is your local airport? isn't it easier getting an indirect from there rather than a trip to Man or London?

DIY works very well if you are willing to be flexible, maybe go indirect or stay offsite, last Oct (half term) we went for 9 nights £330pp(flight & hotel) but stayed just outside Disney and indirect flights.
If you are set on a Disney hotel and direct flights then you probably won't save a massive amount on a package.
Just looked at Virgin for 7th Oct this year would cost you £1,861.50 for flights from London. Indirect £1324.00

If the price is not a lot of difference also consider you only need pay a deposit and pay balaance next year plus go thru Quidco and get 3% cashback (£183 on £6,103)
Package £6,103
cashback £183
Hotel package £4,277
Flights are costing you £1,643, can't see you beating that for Virgin flights.

Hi wayne, thanks. my local airport is Inverness and my nearest big one is glasgow or Edinburgh which is a 4 hour drive away so actually easier from LGW as I can get cheap flights down to there.

We would prefer onsite as we don't hire a car (although dh says he might hire one from the car place near dolphin for a day to see how it is)

our dates are quite flexible our school holidays start on about the 9th oct for 19 days.

It sounds like you don't really want to drive so onsite is limited due to being 5 of you.
Hopefully your DH will try a car and enjoy it as much as me, driving over there is so much easier than here then it opens up loads more places for you to stay if you ever want to go on a lower budget, places like Cypress Pointe Grandevillas(2 bed aprt) LBV are only about £500 for 2 weeks.

I did see a FW cabin at about £2,580 for this Oct room only, when you add food and tix its probably not much difference to the Disney deal.

hi, wayne do you think going direct from glasgow with virgin for 474 pp is a good price for beg oct 2010, we would be restricted to that time ?

Sorry its a route I have never watched to track prices. I looked earlier and indirect(1 stop each way) this Oct from Glagow were around £375. Is it worth and extra £100pp to go direct?

have you treid travel city direct? I priced up a holiday for next aug and its cheaper than virgin and works out about the same as we are paying this year doing it all seperately and its still virgin flights

We did try them but they have very limited choice of resorts.
