You have all been so wonderful with your insight and reviews, I have another question. What would you choose for a TS dinner on an Epcot day, San Angel, Rose & Crown, or Biergarten? I want my son(turning 10 during trip) to see/try something out of the norm than what we do at home. With that being said, we eat a lot of Mexican food, so San Angel would be mostly for ambiance. I'll be trying Monsieur Paul, Coral Reef, and Garden Grill during the course of my trip. I'll be with my husband, sister, nephew(18), and son. Also, I'd prefer to stay in the park. TIA

San Angel will be *nothing* like the Mexican food you are used to! BUT with that said, I'm pretty wimpy as far as "spicy" goes and in 3 times there each main dish I've tried was too hot for my tastes.
Biergarten has meat n potatoes in every form imaginable. I'm a Hard Core Foodie and I picked at the rather plain foods while hubby LOVED it.
Rose and Crown is good, but not great. The food is rather bland but the desserts are quite nice.

Thanks for the reply! Aside from the food, which one do you feel you had the better ambiance. I had Biergarten on the list before, but then I felt that's a lot for sausages plus I am more of a cocktail gal versus beer, which would be my sister.

I have ADR for San Angel and Biergarten for November. I haven't been to any one of them but I chose my restaurants for their "uniqueness" since I don't know when I'll be back at WDW.

From my research, San Angel has very unique view (of the temple and volcano) inside the restaurant, Biergarten has music plus entertainment if you choose the right time, and Rose and Crown seem to have good review on food.

For us, I think out of three, Biergarten will be most unique because we never had German food and there's entertainment (something we won't see where we live).

I originally had ADR for Rose & Crown but decide to switch over to Raglan Road in DS for the Irish dancers (also something we won't see where we live).

EDIT: Forgot to mention my ADR for Biergarten is for lunch since everyone said it's basically same food at night but it's extra $8 per person for dinner.

Like the PP stated. The food isn't like any Mexican that you've eaten I'm sure, but with that said, It still is pretty good, & the ambience/setting is second to none.

Biergarten is another one of those , that doesn't seem to disappoint. At least in my eyes..My family is not huge when it comes to all those different types of meats, but I love it....I do like the atmosphere here as well. Keep in mind that you will be seated next to other diners too..It's long picnic bench style... This is to encourage guests interaction though, & the show is very entertaining too.

Either you choose will be fun.

Now I'm not a huge fan of MP, or GG, but we did enjoy CR the 3 x's we've eaten here.

One thought, when I hear "picnic bench style" I think benches. They are NOT. The seating is at tables & chairs for 8. It really matters for my bad back. Personally I don't love German food, but DH & DS do. I prefer R& C. Either would be fun.

true no benches, sorry, but it is set up like that where you are seated across from each other, & not side by side.

Can you explain what you all mean about it not being like any Mexican I've eaten before...is that a good thing or bad lol
Good point about the seating, the backless bench may make a difference with my sister.

Yes. But they are NOT backless benches, they are regular chairs.
Most of us eat Americanized Mexican food or Tex Mex food. This is not burritos or chimichurras but more traditional Mexican cuisine. Whether that is good or bad is up to your expectations.

Biergarten - we don't eat Germany food at home so when we go to WDW we always try to eat there. Our family likes the band that plays. DH loves the beer. Families next to us have always been friendly.

Rose & Crown - not a fan, too normal of food for our family. DH likes the fish/chips and beer (seeing a trend for what my hubby likes).

San Angels - we have better Mexican food in in Kansas. Atmosphere is okay, but I thought noisy.

Review the menus to see what your family would order or enjoy from the buffet.

Enjoy!

Or you could go totally outside the box and eat at Morocco. The food is good, the setting is definitely unique and they used to have a belly dancer, don't know if they still do or not. They serve adult beverages as well.

Biergarten - As it is a buffet you can pick and choses from a variety of food. If you want to expose your son to some different food this is the place I would pick. Plus it has the entertainment factor.

Rose & Crown - Food OK. Not anything different.

San Angels - Liked the food here. But it's very dark. And yes, I also think it's noisy.

I will check it out! Thanks

IMHO, the food at San Angel is subpar. Yes, the restaurant is gorgeous and unique, but I could never eat their food again!

I would look into Spice Road Table. The food and service are quite good and the atmosphere is definitely unique. We love both the indoor and outdoor seating locations. Indoors is probably more "unique".

We haven't tried Rose & Crown for some reason. Out of San Angel Inn & Biergarten, I would definitely choose SAI. To me, Biergarten is a mediocre meat fest. Even thought I'm not vegetarian, I ended up eating a couple different salads & a roll. I'm a dessert person & the desserts were seriously lacking. For me, they need to be worth the calories. Theirs weren't. My guys who love meat thought it was alright. Regardless, the quality was the same as you'd find at a mediocre buffet anywhere. It's not horrible, but it's still average buffet quality.

SAI is more authentic Mexican not Tex-Mex, which to me is a good thing. Both times we've been the food has been good not excellent, but definitely better than Biergarten. Once we had a horrible seat near the bathroom. The second time we were seated right by the river. That was a much more pleasant experience. Lesson learned on asking to be in the main room.

It really comes down to your feelings on buffets in general. Biergarten is no better than a decent buffet you'll find in your hometown or nearby. If your family really likes buffets in general, that may be the better choice for you.

When my girls were 9 & 12 they loved Rose & crown. I should also note that it was the year they fell in love with Doctor Who. They both asked our waitress numerous questions....I think just to hear her lovely accent. They have requested we go there next trip.

We love all 3 of these. San Angel is not your standard Tex Mex but rather more authentic, great atmosphere. Rose N Crown food is very good IMO, atmosphere is cool, somewhat pub like(in comparison to those in England)but is a bit fancier than most real pubs we have seen. Biergarten, food, atmosphere and band all together make for a great experience. So my nod for your circumstances would go to Biergarten

Personally the amtosphere at R&C is just meh for me. We have a ton of pubs just like that here in canada. So for me thats nothing special. It might be different for you though, depending on where youre from? For uniqueness, i'd choose Biergarten. There's a wide variety at the buffet PLUS the band is fun to listen to and watch...and the atmosphere is pretty neat.

Thanks again, everyone. Just an update, I narrowed it down to San Angel, Spice Road, and Restaurant Marrakesh...yes, somehow my choices changed almost completely. Then this afternoon my son randomly says he wants to try blood(black) pudding and bubbles and squeak because he was reading about foods around the world. After a Google search telling me which each was, I looked at Ragland, who has blood pudding at their brunch and Rose and Crown who has bubble and sqeak. I made adrs for both, but am wondering if that may be too much of a similar cuisine. If so, then I'd have to replace the rose & crown for 1 of my Epcot nights. Also, does anyone know how brunch works on the dining plan?
I can't ask my son his opinion because this is a surprise Christmas.
