I am a Disney-aholic. I admit to this. My husband and I are planning on taking our daughter next summer (2013) for her first trip to Walt Disney World and for her 5th birthday. I want to make it the most memorable trip yet. I can't wait to share Disney World with her (I have already "brain washed her).

Our home resort is SSR. We have stayed at OKW, BW, WL, and a few other resorts. I think WL is kind of dark for their decor but I love how quick it is to MK. Anyone have advise on the best resort to take a 5 year old for their first trip? For maybe a 10 day trip?

I would have to agree BLT has a great wow factor exspecially for a first trip -
and such a short walk back in the evening if the monorail line is to long -
The lake pool view is also nice if you need to save points -
The ability to travel to the other resorts and explore or for meals on the monorail is really convenient too !

I just got back yesterday with my two grandchildren ages 3 and 1. We stayed at VWL and it was great.

The convenience to MK was wonderful. I would definitely recommend staying close to the MK.

BLT has a definite wow factor. It is a monorail resort, but also a really quick walk to MK when the monorail is crowded. Even if you do a lake view to save points, you could luck out and get a partial MK view. We stayed there last summer with a lake view and Space Mountain was right outside our window. If you don't get so lucky, the elevator lobbies on both sides offer tremendous MK views. Seeing the castle evey morning while waiting for the elevator is a great way to start your day.

Some don't care for the decor of BLT. It is very modern and it has been called "sterile" and "not very Disney". Personally, I like the subtle Disney touches it offers and love some of the amazing Disney artwork displayed in the elevator lobbies. Also, Top of the World Lounge offers the best views of the fireworks, outside of the "prime" viewing locations in the MK itself.

BLT would be my first choice. 4 year old granddaughter loved AKL because of the animals. Sitting on the balcony every evening watching the animals was fascinating to her.

The only two drawbacks is that AKL is far away from parks and the resort is spread out.

Maybe with a 10 day trip you can split your stay between two resorts.

I would vote for the Beach club. She will love the pool and the kids pool.
