What was the ultimate factor in your choice of resort once you decided to buy into DVC?

Value We know all the discussions, but honestly for us it was all about value. We have enjoyed all the resorts in WDW, but when we decided to buy DVC we got into SSR at $79 a point. We will be staying at AKV on this trip which will make 4 resorts total for us so far (SSR,OKW,BWV,AKV).

Theme My favorite theme is VWL, but we figured we can always try to book at this resort, so I decided I would not buy based on theme

Location My favorite location would have had me buying into BCV, we like it a little better than BWV's, and you can get the enjoyment of the Boardwalk nightly entertainment with a quick walk. I will admit that if I wanted to stay at this location for something like the F&W Fest and could not book it, it might be a little disappointing, but ultimately, I will still be at WDW enjoying luxury accomodations, and having the time of my life!

For us it ended up being location. We bought all three of our contracts resale so we were able to find the right contract for us and negotiate the price. WE bought VWL first because that is my husband's favorite resort and we are close to MK and all the monorail resorts. We then bought a small contract at HH because we could not get a ressie at 7 months during late June or ealry July. I always wanted a contract at BCV so we just added agsin as we love the location and SAB.

For me it ended up being the theming of VWL. I purchase OKW on a resale in 1999 based on price before VWL was built but once I stayed there at Christmastime I just had to have the 11 month booking window. So I sold my OKW points to buy even more VWL points and am very happy with my decision. So far I have only stayed at OKW, SSR, and VWL DVCs but I do plan to try out BLT on my next trip and BWV, BCV, and AKL in the near future. That's the beauty of it, while I can try to stay at other resorts for a change of pace, I am never dissappointed if a waitlist doesn't come through as long as I'm at the VWL.

Location for us! We bought in to DVC because they built BLT. We love MK and always loved staying at the CR. We knew that DVC would be for us when and if a MK resort was built.

When they announced it last year, we knew that we would be DVC members! We stayed there this summer (along with BWV and VWL) and know that we made the right decision!!!

For me it was price first - the Vacation as you Wish webcast got our BLT price down to $91. Timing is everything - I believe I managed to lock in on the best price that was ever offered for BLT and it is the exact resort I was interested in. I stayed there last weekend and LOVED being on the Monorail - I knew that was a perk but I had no idea how much I would appreciate it.

As you can tell by my signatures, I love location! I live in Iowa, so when I am at WDW I dont need peace and all that other crap! I need the magic!

We bought at two different resorts, and we did it for two very different reasons.

We wanted an Epcot resort. Our family was divided on which one, and we ended up buying BWV because the price was a little better, and because we fairly quickly found a resale contract that was exactly what we wanted.

We bought AKV for the theming and the savannah views. DS is an animal nut, and AK is his favorite park. Last trip he actually started asking to go to AKL as a destination because he loves the animal viewing there so much. (We'd taken him there when we ate at Jiko on multiple trips... he hadn't realized it was a hotel we could stay in, he just realized it was a great place to look at animals.)

We bought for the sheer pleasure of being able to vacation in WDW for the next 48 years or so and not worry bout the price of the rooms going up, so I selected value of pts. Shawnpirate:

The closest I could come on the poll was Location. It's never really been important to me to be on-property, but now that I'm getting older and slowing down (rats, major bummer, etc.), I decided that it would be helpful to be on property so my little 3-generation family could be on different schedules and with different transportation -- they can take the car, and I'll use the busses (or vice versa). After many years of them not keeping up with me, now I have trouble keeping up with them! I do like being on-property, but am also okay staying off-site, which is still working okay, but the time is coming when it will be much better for me to be on-site (looking forward to relaxing on the balcony/patio at OKW) (altho I bought at SSR, so I'd have the elevator when I need it).

Maybe we are different but we didn't buy for value, location, or theming. We bought so we woud know we could come back to Disney every year. We loved the room layout of the one bedroom. Always having a king bed and a whirlpool tub sealed the deal

For us it was a combo of value and length of contract. We are relatively young, (very early 30s when we bought in), and we did not want a 2042 contract. We bought SSR over AKV since we got more bang for our buck at the time, and dues are lower. I also felt like there would be enough SV rooms at 7m at AKV on the occasion we would want to stay there.
If BCV had a longer contract, we would have bought there.

While we love Boardwalk -- we bought SSR as our first and only DVC home resort in 2004 based on value and the extra years.

We made the decision TO BUY based on financial projections. We had made several trips already, and realized that as long as we were going to continue to spend our vacations at WDW, we got more for our money (2br suites) with DVC.

We made the decision WHERE to buy based on location - BCV,
and Experience - AKL!

When we bought at OKW it was for value as the price per point (resale) was lower, the rooms were bigger and took less points to stay there. When we bought at BLT is was totally for location :dance3:

Location and Theme for us, location was the most important (there is only one DVC at DLR, and that one is very well positioned in relation to the parks!); however, it was win-win, as we really REALLY like the Arts and Crafts style architecture of the Grand Californian (including the awesome atrium/lobby, and the furniture and decorations in the villas).

I can't vote, as the deciding factor was different for each of my home resorts, and I'd need more choices than the poll allows.

However, I guess location played a role in VGC, BLT, BCV, and BWV, and theme played a role in AKV and VWL.

It varied by resort.

First purchase was OKW and that was for value (points, dues and size of villas) and relaxing theme.

Second purchase was BCV and that was for location in Dec and fabulous pool

Third purchase was AKV and that was for theme

Fourth purchase was VGC and that was for location.

My advice is buy based on what is most important to you.
