Decided to wait....

We were thinking about a spur of the moment trip during the week of Christmas but now I think we may wait until January 17-24 so that leaves me more time to figure all this out. We have not been since Nov. 2007. I think the crowds and such have scared us off for Christmas week although I hate that our 6 year old will miss all the more magical experiences then.

I had read where some rides are closed in January, does anyone know when that is? What about the weather then?

Please help on places to stay then, low cost........we will have 3 adults and 2 kids...

Suggestions please for going in January.

Crowds should be MUCH lower in January than Christmas week. I know that one of the water parks is closed for refurbishment and the weather in January can be mild or downright cold, so be sure to check the weather leading up to your trip frequently and pack for every situation. For our December trip we're bringing 3 pairs of shorts each, 4 pairs of pants each, 7 short sleeve tshirts each, 2 zip up jackets each (in case we need to layer them) as well as scarves, hats and gloves. We will have a condo with a washer and dryer so we can wash whenever we need to.

Check out the crowd calendars at easywdw.com to help plan which park to go to on which day. They have a month by month breakdown that is very useful in trying to maximize park time and minimize crowds.

Offsite is going to be way less $ than onsite for sure but you MUST have a car IMO because offsite shuttles aren't very frequent and are sometimes expensive. I see a 2 bedroom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek (WBC) on eBay for $850 for your week. WBC is AWESOME and very close to the parks. It's right down the road from Caribbean Beach Resort and very close to everything. We are going to Orlando for one week starting Friday. This was last minute, we just booked Saturday. We got a 2br/2ba at WBC for $500 on redweek.com. If I was willing to go one day later I could have gotten it for $488. This will be our first time at WBC, I have read good things about it on this board.

We usually stay at Marriott Harbour Lake which we LOVE! You can get that on redweek also, but no availability for this trip for us. MHL is close to Sea World so you will need a car to stay there. It is halfway between Disney and Universal, very kid friendly, especially younger kids.
