Heading down to WDW Dec 22-27th. What is the weather like during the day and night in December? What should I pack, Shorts, tees, swatershirts, pants?

Check 10 day Disney World Weather on Weather.com starting at 5 days prior to your trip and keep checking every day.

I literally got back last night and though I know it's earlier than your December date, I have gone my exact dates every year for the past 6 years and the weather is different each trip. Radically different. Several years ago it was literally 30 degrees and we walked around the parks with 5 layers of clothing.

This trip was a high of 84 so the weather can be anything. Checking carefully prior to your leaving will make the world of difference what goes into your suitcase. Remember that even if nice during the day (doubt you will have 80+ degrees), it definitely gets much cooler at night.

As DVCjj said, December can be rather quite variable. I also second the recommendation to keep an eye on the weather channel 10 day. Also check the record high/lows (available on the monthly page by clicking on the date) for the days you are there to get a sense of the variability. For instance the average high/low for Dec 25th is 71/49, the record high is 85, and the record low is a quite chilly 21! My standard recommendation is to pack one outfit for each extreme. We have always found a polartec hoodie to be valuable for those cool evenings or chilly mornings waiting for rope drop. If you keep an eye on the 10 day forecast and hold off on your packing you should be able to pack wisely.

Wishing you a magical trip!

We head out on Saturday for 16 nights so the 10 day forecast only takes us so far. I just do a final check before closing my case on Saturday morning and just hope it doesn't change too much from the forecast, unless they've forecast cold and rain, then we pray it's wrong :sunny:

16 days sounds GLORIOUS. I'm sure you'll have a super time no matter the weather. You're in WDW! Most important packing items: mini umbrellas & ponchos. Wouldn't be caught dead on a Disney World trip without them. And charge cards to buy warmer/colder clothing in a pinch.

We come over from England so anything above freezing is a bonus to us!

Last year, we were there Dec 31-Jan 3, and we had a variety of weather. Most days we started with light jacket and capris with tshirt. If it warmed up, the light jacket got tied around waist. I have to say that the rain made it quite chilly one day in AK. It is just different being outside all day in it even with poncho. We did swim on New Years Day which was cool to say and do! The AOA pool was heated enough to feel good. It was high of 30 degrees back home so 60s-70s in the day with 50s-60s at night was toasty to us :flower1:. We are headed back again this year Dec 26-Jan 1 at AOA again and just packing a mix of things. We will have cold weather gear for home going to airport so we should be covered. We loved the December weather compared to the heat of summer. Daughter actually has asked not go in June anymore :rolleyes1. Hope you have a great time!

I live here and have for 20 years. I am bout 70 miles due west of WDW. I am originally from SE PA. Since you are from the NE, I would liken late December to mid March up there. It's a mixed bag. It could be cold or it could be warm.
Typically not over 80 but most likely in the low 70's during the day. Be prepared for 60's though.
Example: Today's high is forecasted to be 81 but Friday's high is only to be 67. :-) That's our typical December.

What should I pack, Shorts, tees, swatershirts, pants?
Yes, all of these. We now live near the parks, but before that we visited in December annually for 20+ years. We've had weather that ranged from shorts/tees to winter coats and gloves...in the same weekend.

Pack for warm weather but think jeans and a hoodie for some nights, and be prepared for one or two OMGWTF how is it this cold in Florida mornings and evenings. Pop Warner week earlier this month, it was warm to hot, but one day the temperature plummeted into the 50s with drizzle in the morning and a breeze in the evening (and eventually the 40s overnight). We travel from Chicago, but even with our jackets and long pants, we were freezing that night in MK waiting for the Christmas party parade on Main Street. It's that occasional day you have to be prepared for in December in Florida.
