Back and forth on our Thanksgiving trip. Our banking deadline is July 31 and I don't really feel 100% comfortable with keeping the trip on the books based on the uncertainty of everything. We are certainly be affected by all the recent announcements, no FP+, DDP, reservation system, etc.

We've only had 1 trip this year in January. Canceling our November trip will result in an influx of points to spend next year.

I'm in the same boat with a Dec UY and a November trip booked (moved from April and just cancelled July). I would wait it out until end of July and then re-asses. If you are feeling at all uncomfortable then, I would cancel and bank and enjoy your points next year.

I agree to wait as you have time, The only reason not to is if you would want to use those points to make a new reservation for next year from now,

We borrowed 78 points from Dec 2020 for our November trip and if we cancel I'm assuming that they will be put into holding to be spent by the end of November 2020.

In all if the communication I don't think there has been any mention of reservations for the Fall yet. Surely there are other members who will be making modifications to trips that will be affected the same way.

You can cancel online and it is supposed to be done within 15 days. When I canceled, I did send an email as to make sure they knew I had done it and was expecting them to be returned,

I'm 75% sure that we are canceling. Honestly I just want to stop worrying about it. Our DVC trips have a "Set it and forget it" quality but this uncertainty had added another layer. I'm OK with the masks and social distancing precautions but I'm NOT ok with the diminished value. Especially those that are a benefit to staying on site. I also have major concerns about the reservation system. Some of us have tickets and some do not. Nothing is going to guarantee all members of my party will be granted admission once we can finally buy their tickets. "LET THE HUNGER GAMES BEGIN. May the odds be ever in your favor."

Currently, they are returning all borrowed points from any canceled reservation, even with resorts open,

We do not know when they intended to stop the practice, but that is a consistent policy currently in place. Some have had success while on the phone or chat having them moved immediately and some have been told it could take 15 days and see then points moved at a later date..most often in less time, but some had to call back because it exceed the 15 days.

I have had success 3 times getting them moved via calls or chat. I canceled a March 2021 trip a month ago that had borrowed points and noticed a week later they had restored them on their own.

I am really hoping that when they set this up, that once someone with a ticket from a reservation gets in to choose the park day, that they will allow them to book for all and purchase the ticket right then and there.

The waiting is hard, Honestly, I would love for them to offer an option to let them do it for you and randomly assign you to a park, and then if you don’t like it, you can change if there is room,

Similar to how they do it on a cruise where they offer you a savings for not choosing your stateroom.

Masks and social distancing and most other things are actually ok with us. We are rarely in the parks for fireworks and never use the DDP. But I would be traveling with my Mom who is 80+ years old and I just am worried for the second wave and being there with her. I am giving it until late July and will cancel and bank at that time. I have some banked 2019 points I could lose, so I may leave part of the reservation in tact and try to get it rented out as a confirmed reservation. I have also thought of cancelling now and booking a room only reservation on cash which can be cancelled and the money returned much closer to the date.

If the points are already banked, they would be 2018 points, as we are still in the 2019 UY for December,

It really is sad that so many people have had to change things this year but making the right choice for family is always best,

Oops - you are right. I do know that and either mistyped or was just not thinking straight at the moment. Those are 2018 banked points that I could lose. I am still giving things until July before I make any decisions.
