Cast--DH (40),me (40), DD#1 (11), DD#2(8), DS (5)
Today was NYE and we had a 7AM wakeup call. I had looked at the materials I got at checkin and found that Epcot opened at 8. We got there by monorail about 8:15, and found to my chagrin that it had opened at 7!!! This was my second park hours mistake of the week! DD#2 and I went to TT and got fast passes which weren't until about 3PM! Then we waited standy for MS--it said 2 hours, but would have been 1 hour 45 minutes if the family hadn't had to change vehicles. I went with them for the line and the preshow and then bugged out at the last minute. I had ridden it in July and while I didn't throw up, I felt really bad for a while. Just thinking about it was giving my stomach flashbacks. As I walked out I saw a boy throwing up--which is why they told DH and the kids their module was broken and transferred them to another one, they were probably cleaning up. A CM told me that about 20 people puke every day on MS. So with the delay it was almost exactly 2 hours from getting in line to getting out of the ride. It was DS's first time being tall enough and he really enjoyed it
After that we ate at the Electric Umbrella and then did some shopping at Mouse Gear, which is probably my favorite shop in all of WDW. Then we went over to Ellen's Energy adventure which the family all enjoys. DH had looked at those 3D crystal pictures last July and he told me that he really wanted one. I talked him out of getting one of me (I'm at about my all time high weight, LOL) but we got one of the kids. It was all he got the entire trip for himself. He would have to go back and pick it up after 9PM. By this point (we spent a lot of time getting the 3D thing) it was almost 3PM and I really wanted to see Off Kilter, so we headed over to Canada. When did they take the benches out???? We all sat on the ground and kept having to kill those flying ants. The show was great--for the last couple of numbers a couple was doing very excellent dancing in front of the stage--the guy was obviously an Off Kilter "groupie" as he had an OK t-shirt on and they all seemed to recognize him. AFter the show DD#2 wanted their autographs, so I let her go get them and then she got a picture with the whole band! She was thrilled. DS, meanwhile, had fallen asleep, but woke up pretty quick when told we were headed to TT.
We got over there and walked right on with our FPs--all the FPs had been gone for hours and the standby wait was 100 minutes. Our picture, as usual, didn't come out because there is always one child that can't be seen! After that we headed over to Mexico and I got my customary fiesta margarita
. We had dinner in Mexico and we got there a little early. They were telling people without reservations to forget it! I don't remember what I ate but it was really good. Towards the end people were coming in with hats and horns--they had been passing them out for a few minutes--my Epcot times handout said they were passing them out in China, so I ran down there but no CMs knew what I was talking about! I met the family back in Mexico. By now everyone that had those stupid horns was blowing them incessantly--it was only 6:30--I was ready to explode. We headed toward the front of the park. We decided that DD#2 and DS and I would go back to the Contemporary and DD#1 and DH would stay at Epcot and wait for the 3D thing to be done. The noise was making me crazy. A nice man gave DH his extra hat and told him some people had been grabbing 10-12 of them at a time. No wonder not everyone gets one
. So we headed back to the hotel.
We filled up our mugs and hung out in the room. I tried to shop for a while, but ended up only making mental notes as the kids were running around. When we were in the room I even napped for a while! DH and DD#1 got back around 10:30--they had ridden Spaceship Earth and Figment and seen some of Illuminations. We hung out watching Dick Clark, and seeing Minnie and Mickey on TV--knowing they were only a little ways away, as we could see MK from the room. The fireworks actually started about 11:55--half from the island, half from MK. They were awesome! It seemed everyone on that side of the hotel was out on their balconies! I even looked at the TV quick at midnight and they were showing the same fireworks on TV, which flipped me out! The display lasted a little over 10 minutes and was easily the best WDW fireworks display I've ever seen, and what a view! I was glad we hadn't run over to MK, as after the fireworks we just shut off the TV and went to bed!!
