What is universal like over xmas holiday and does it get as busy as August.

I was planning going in Aug but due to lack of funds it may now be xmas

Universal busy ?

Very very busy ..I dont think the parks closed to capacity at universal this past year, but they did the year before. It will be very very crowded.Staying onsite using early entry and having express pass helps, but keep in mind that there is still waits for things like bathrooms, restaurants etc.August is much less crowded, and August is not low crowds by any stretch.Add to it that this year crowds may increase over Christmas break with people trying to see the new Harry Potter expansion that will be openign this summer.

Universal busy?
All local theme parks are jammed during "Holiday Hell Week" but this year (2014) I fully expect both Universal parks to close due to capacity. With Diagon Alley opening this summer, expect hoards of fans to flock to the Studios over that week. It won't be pretty.

We'll be there this year 12/28 - 1/2, staying onsite with P2P passes. Do onsite guests get in even if the parks are at capacity? We're usually there at park opening, but may want to sleep in one day or go from one park to another. Typically, what do they do in the parks for New Years Eve?

Looks like il be there over xmas planning on visiting universal for 1 day for new harry potter.

Also around xmas holidays is there anything different about universal parades etc worth seeing etc.

Like terror nights = Halloween

is there anything for x mas i done Disney around 6 years ago overs xmas ind vowed i would not go back due to how busy it was.

But i find myself ina pickle as its only time we can go this year is xmas due to the rising price, so i have to save up and go for xmas...

only do school holidays as wife is a teacher :*( cost a fortune as well...

any advice for this period, would be appreciated.

Normally stay at the Rosen inn great value for money .

Thanks

If you absolutely HAVE to go during Christmas week, stay onsite. The express pass and early entry will save you.Christmas week crowds are insane, even at Universal. If you are doing it offsite, it is not going to be easy , especially with the new Harry potter opening.I suspect that the holiday week this year will have capacity closures again at the universal ( it has happened in 2012, 2011 .Not in 2013 I dont think ).If you must stay offsite, and wont have express pass be prepared to wait a long long time for things.Get to the parks well before rope drop and ready to go.

We GOTTA have Express Pass during the holidays, even though the On site rates during most of the Christmas break are crazy expensive, but we usually have so few options as a complete family with regards to our schedules.
During our stay this past Christmas there, there was at least one "Temporary Closure" due to the capacity crowds. (Probably shouldda happened on at least one other day too). They did open it back up with a couple of hours though.
Adjust your expectations and try to have as much fun as you can. ;)
