Hey all! We always go to Disney in May but hubby has been dying to go when all the christmas lights are up. So we decided to go this year! Are we making a mistake? I am a little freaked so talk me into it! We are going the tues or wed after thanksgiving. Any tips or advice?

Only advise I can give you is see if you can get a room! I called BLT at 10 months out (home resort) and could not get anything until after the Dec 11th! From Thanksgiving thru NYE dvc gets very booked and the 1st 2 weeks in Dec are the worst for dvc ressie from what I have read on this board. (low points, holiday decorations not so busy at parks = many dvcer's) If you are doing a cash ressie you maybe just fine. Not sure. Good luck

I have been to WDW in both May and Dec. I love Disney in Dec. The Christmas decorations really put me in the Christmas spirit. The weather is a little funny but it does not bother us. In Dec. some days we have started off the day in shorts and short sleeves and had to put on jackets and hats by the end of the day. Not all the time but be prepared for warm and cold weather. I would say absolutely go in Dec. enjoy your trip.

I am going that same time for the first time. 12/2 - 12/12! We usually go in May or October. There are a ton of threads about December right now. It is also free dining. There were plenty of rooms available as of yesterday. We are staying in a value the first 3 nights then moving off site for a week. Have fun!

hi everyone,

My dd ( now age 19 ) and I go every year, kind of a mother / daughter get away, we always have gone towards the middle of dec. but with her college this year we are forced to go more towards the beginning of the month 12/2 - 12/8 , have read so much negitive stuff in regard to this pop warner going on, hopefully it won't be that bad, looking forward as always to going and especially the very merry xmas party ( 12/5 ) . I also understand they do the christmas parade filming with regis and Kelly, I hope that will happen on the 3rd, don't even want to be in the park that day. I rented a car this year, because I have to use a scooter and waiting for the buses, last year was horrilbe, so this year, I rented one that can come apart and fit into my truck of my rental. we will also be staying at CSR for the 1st time, we usually always stay at the POFQ or POR, so always looking forward to that change , any tips or suggestions. Great to be part of what is a very large forum here.
thanks again, Kathy :santa::santa::santa::santa::santa::santa:

Hmm, I read that the pop warner really isn't a problem since they stay at the value resorts and are usually doing activities all day. Thanks for the tips everyone. Now I called to use my pin for 40% off and had no clue it expired on the 10th! Never had a pin before so I had no clue that it expired so fast. Oh well, we don't want free dining so we will wait and hopefully get another pin.

Oh I love going at holiday time. My fiance and son (10yrs) and I have gone for Thanksgiving in '07, '09 and just booked for this coming. It is so beautifully decorated I can't imagine going at any other time of year. The only thing I noticed that was considerable between the 1st and 2nd trips was the crowds depending on the dates we went. When we went in '07 we left Thanksgiving morning - Thurs. and stayed until the following Monday. We had a super early flight so we were able to spend most of Thanksgiving Day at Magic Kingdom and it was relatively quiet - and from Friday on things were way more busy crowd-wise. For last year's trip in '09 we flew out 2 days earlier on a Tuesday and stayed through the following Monday - and the pattern seemed to be the same in that from Thanksgiving day on it got more crowded. I have never been in the very beginning of Dec. so I don't know what it is like crowd-wise then.

For this year we are actually going from the 18th - the 26th, which will have us there 1 week prior to Thanksgiving and going home the day after. I wonder if it will be a little less busy that way.

As far as tips and advice, I would just recommend seeing the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights if you can, it really is amazingly beautiful. The Mickey's Christmas Party is a lot of fun, the parade is really cool but get there early if you want to get a good viewing spot. The fireworks display there is really magical as is the "snow" that comes down on Main Street. The candlelight processional in Epcot is also really nice and we found that if you are walking through the park when it's going on you can still see and hear a good part of the choir etc. without having to pay for the seating.

Enjoy your trip, I'm sure you'll love it.

Thanks everyone! I have been on this board for a few years since whenever we go this is the place to get the right answers!

I'm going to be honest, Decemeber is busy and rather crazy but there is nothing as magical as being at Disney for Christmas. :)
