For those of you with experience of going in the December/Winter - What should we wear on our feet?

I've decided to go for layers for clothing - thermals undies, tights, hat, gloves, ski jackets etc but am having a bit of a dilema about footwear.

Do we go for Wellies - not sure how comfy we'd be after a long day in the parks but at least our feet would be dry (mmmm maybe just a little sweaty:scared:)

DD has Ugg style boots - cozy but not waterproof!

Hiking boots - waterproof, warm....

Leather boots - would we be warm enough....

Hi Fiona,

I always go for comfort first as you do a LOT of walking. Then if it is a case that your comfortable shoes aren't waterproof then bring a couple of extra pairs. That way if you get wet one day you can leave that pair to dry and wear the next pair. I've never tried walking around in wellies but I would imagine they wouldn't be very comfortable.

Last year and the year before it bucketed rain on us for at least half our stay and I managed to cope with 3 pairs of shoes (2 pairs of Skechers and 1 pair of trainers). By the 4th day the pair I had worn on day 1 were completely dry so I wore them again.

Don't know if this helps at all??

Is this your first trip during the Christmas season? Best time to visit DLP in my opinion!!! :yay:

Thank Pretty P, Yes its our first Christmas trip (I'm more of a summer/halloween gal;)) I'm so excited, but as its a surprise trip feel like I'm planning and panicking about daft things like shoes on my own:lmao:

We are going for our first Christmas trip this December too. With 7 of us in the car there won't be much room for luggage so we are going for one pair of Goretex walking boots each and hope they live up to their reputation.

Hiking boots/shoes, ...have never let me down..comfort and waterproof, wellies aren't warm!

I'm having the same dilemma as we're there the same time as you. DD & I both have some furry boots which are oh so warm & comfy but don't think they would be waterproof! Could we buy some waterproof spray for them?

If you decide to go for leather boots/ugg style boots remember to use protector spray on them! It'll help stop them from getting ruined from the white salt marks from the rain and help make them slightly waterproof (though not completely! It can only do so much!).

I wore leather boots last year, I made sure I had really thick cosy socks to wear with them (one reason as to why boots should be a little loose)

Can you tell I've worked far too long in shoes? :rotfl:

I have waterproof walking shoes, and they only come out of the wardrobe for DLP - but I take them every trip, except May/June when I take my comfy mules. My walking shoes were fine for my trip last December, and DD had Ugg-style boots and trainers in case her boots got soaked (they didn't, as the rain/wet weather didn't get to the sock of the boot, only the sole, which is waterproof). 2 pairs of socks at a time for DD too in the worst of the weather, or tights and a pair of socks.

Your feet need to be as comfy as possible, as you walk miles and miles at DLP without even realising.

Hi
I'm packing snow boots for us, do you think these will be ok.
Can't deal with having wet and cold feet.

I wear my hiking boots in bad weather or I take more then one pair of trainers in case a pair get too wet

We've been December and January time and we wear snow boots, I got my pair from Aldi - not that pretty to look at but were very comfy and completly waterproof - and had good grip for any ice etc. Definitely a time of year for comfort not fashion for us :rotfl2:

I wear UGGs that have been waterproofed with spray - I also read on a similar thread that someone put socks on, then sandwich bags then UGGs to ensure waterproof-ness! I have to say though my UGGs have seen me through snow and rain and I've never had any bother. DH wears goretex walking boots :)

I do the same as Noodlesmum, I wear my Uggs (which I have waterproofed) and never have any problems. I wore them all last winter through the really bad snow and my feet still stayed dry and warm.

I wear my very comfy walking boots and thermal socks. They keep my feet nice n' warm and dry.

I shall have to get myself some waterproofing spray then and hope that does the trick as my furry boots are just so perfectly warm and comfortable! I'll probably take trainers too - always have spare shoes! ;)

I usually swear by my Timberland boots but I got a pair of Goretex boots for our trip to Krakow earlier in the year - there was deep snow and it snowed the whole time we were there and my feet stayed toasty and dry so I think I will be bringing them along with my trainers next week.

What is the name of the waterproof spray - my boots are sheepskin suede - do I need to spray these - I has assumed they were waterproof lol :rotfl2: the price of them! I am saving them for Disney as they have the softest warmest lining I have ever seen!:banana:

The first time I went at Christmas I wore my (fake) Uggs. They were really warm and comfy and fortunately it was dry.

When we went in November I got some snow boots from Asda for DD and myself and again they were really comfy and more suitable if it was wet.

One tip - when DDs shoes got wet on our recent DL trip (from water rides not rain) we used the hair drier to dry them and it worked really well

We are going Nov 28 - Dec 2. So the footwear question is number one for me.
I have goretex winter boots and all of my kids too. I have merino wool socks for every from the family too. I hope we should be fine.

We've always taken trainers with thermal socks, never let us down yet!

It's always had to be comfort, hence the trainers

How good are these Gore-Tex shoes? I'll be going out to get my footwear next week (so it gives me time to ruin/break them in.

Would it be an idea to go "gore-tex"?
