My wife and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary this December and we have a long weekend planed at Magic Kingdom. Right now we have an all-star booked, but I've been trying to upgrade for a while now and nothing is showing up. I would really like to stay at Port Orleans, but both side show booked. That just doesn't make sense. If that was the case, where room inventory throughout the park is so low during that time, that the park reservation system would be showing yellows or even red during that window, however they are all green. I've tried making

Anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

Caribbean Beach is showing availability for those dates, avg $360 a night for King bed 2 person. It’s more than POR but does get easy skyliner access to HS & EP, plus easy to visit Riviera for dining.

We have a big company event (2500 employees+immediate family+a caretaker=10k total) going on Dec 2-4 and rooms are booked across the following resorts I believe

Edit: We will have some sort of VIP pass or Genie+ at the very least so plan accordingly. I would expect HS and MK to be more crowded Dec 3/4. We can also chose 1 day all paid at US/IOA (park hopper and Express pass included).

OP, check back in a month out from your trip. I’ve read reports here that at 30 days inventory held for groups is released for general public, also that’s when packages are due. That’s when I’ve had the best luck at changing resorts. I’d start checking a few days before the 30 days before checkout mark.

When is the anniversary? Can you adjust your dates to avoid Dec2-4?

Caribbean beach has availability and has Skyliner access to Epcot/HS. Topolinos would be a perfect ADR to have dinner and watch Epcot fireworks (stakeout app can search for one ADR for free and I’ve had success with it).

Check back at 30 days out. We are going the first week of November and there’s been no availability for months. I just checked yesterday and lots of rooms open now.

So I had a similar problem/complaint and made a post about it. My dates are Nov 8-13 but only 3 with in that range. Check often, prior no availability or very little, now I pretty much can have my pick of values and moderates, or some deluxe, but it changes alll the time.

Most park reservations are used by off site guests. The Disney resorts themselves are only a fraction of park capacity.

Sometimes shorter trips won't show availability, but longer ones do. I'm sure this is because Disney likes booking certain lengths of stays. What I would do is search for a longer stay, book it, and since you are outside of 30 days, call and tell them you need to shorten your trip. I've done this for several holiday trips.

Since they no longer allow 1 day bookings they will push back (lower expectations).

Thanks everyone for the information. I'll be sure to check 30 days out to see if something opens up. It also looks like staffing issues may be keeping some capacity down. I was hoping that an early December trip would see low crowds, but oh well, I'm used to it when I could only go in the Summer or Spring Break when I had young kids.

This place is the best.
