My daughter would like to take a cruise for her 13th birthday this December to the Virgin Islands & Castaway Cay. We have always done summer and wonder if we will be able to enjoy all outdoor & water activities during a mid December cruise? On the ship & ports?
Thank you for any information.

Basically you talking a year away. There is honestly no way to even guess how the weather will be and more to the point you really cannot control it.

I would suggest you forget about it until at least the end of November and even then, the weather will be what the weather is, and you will drive yourself insane trying to guess.

What ever happens you I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Thank you and I will try very hard not to drive myself crazy. :-)

No problem, lots of people get wound up on the weather thing......I can offer one thing.............the forecasts often say rain in this port or that port............but this rain is often more likely to be a short squall passing by and the sun returns!

IMHO, enjoying water activities during cooler weather depends a lot on where you are from and what you are used to. Example: I am from the south and there is no way I'm going in the water during cooler weather. On the other hand, people from the more northern regions are used to cooler water temps and really enjoying our southern winter waters.

So, my point is that there are a lot of factors to consider; not just the weather. My understanding is that the ocean around the Caribbean is warmer than what we have here at home (central Texas)

The think the water would be a bit chilly, honestly. We cruise the Caribbean in February, and it is typically just barely tolerable, temperature wise, in the water. We're usually sweating our butts off on land though. Usually 80+ with humidity.

We are from the Texas Hill Country so it just might be too cold to do the water then.

We sail every December and its hit or miss. Last year was absolutely freezing. Almost no line on Aqua Duck ever - because of the cold.

Last month it was cold and rainy for the first half but as we got to the Virgin Islands (sailed from Texas) it was beautiful and HOT.

Morale of story - have to pack for both warm and cold weather, but at the end of the day you're sailing with Mickey so everything is OK! Have fun!

We just got off the Dream the past weekend. The weather itself at Castaway was wonderful (other than some clouds), mid 70's. The water was definitely chilly. We bought wet suits ahead of time to be prepared and we were glad we did (but there were some people in the water without them...not for long though).

In this part of the country you just never know but if you're worried, pick up some wet suits like we did and pack a hoodie just in case :-)
