December 2007. What to do?

We became DVC members a few months ago. This coming december we are planning our first trip home. We are looking at the 2nd week of December to avoid pop warner. We were hoping to stay at VWL but I've heard it can be difficult to get booking at 7 months out. Should I book SSR (our home resort) as soon as we can for those dates and switch at 7 months if possible? Do people do this?

In reference to your comments regarding Pop Warner, are they there every December? My wife and I were there this past Dec 4 - 10. We would also like to avoid that time if possible. It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice. Thanks!

Sora - congratulations on planning your first trip Home!

Definitely go ahead and book with your home resort for December, and then as soon as the 7-months window comes open for VWL, then book then - or get on the waitlist if nothing is available. We were fortunate in that we were able to book at VWL for December without having to waitlist for 2006 -- I was actually shocked that we got it.

But the best thing to do, always (IMHO) is if you know you want to go to WDW for a certain time, go ahead and get your accommodations through your home resort at 11 months -- and that way you're assured of having a place to stay - even if you would prefer somewhere else.
