I'm hoping to go to WDW in the first week of December/05 and staying in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. If anyone has been there around the same time frame in previous years, information on what the crowds are like and if the added cost of staying on-site are worth it would be greatly appreciated.

Or second week of December each year since 1992 and it seems like the crowds have increased a little each year.Crowds are still light to moderate at this time of year. The extra cost of staying on site is worth every penny in my opinion,it puts you right in the middle of the magic and the magical feeling you can only get by staying on site. ::yes:: :wave2:

We were just there the first week of December and we had the most magical vacation. I didn't think that the crowds were all that bad (although this was our first December trip). Compared to all the other times of the year that we have visited the crowds were the best this week.

Staying onsite was great and I think it just added to the magical experience.

Have a great trip!

This year was my second 1st week in December trip. Last year we stayed at ASMu and this year we stayed at AKL.

Both years the resorts were busy/full but we had no problems at either one (ASMu was busier as it was Pop Warner Week) AKL was full, but you would not have known it (except for parking)

The parks were not full, almost no waits on any attraction in all parks (we did Mon-Sat) Only at MK on Saturday afternoon were we waiting for anything.

IMHO it's one of the best times to go, plus the Xmas decorations are great!

Thanks for the info. How far ahead should the rooms be booked? We have never stayed on-site before and I'm wondering if they book up a lot quicker.

You can book your stay now. I would recommend you do so if you know exactly when and where you want to stay. In so doing, you're most likely to get exactly the room/location/class you want. If you make a ressie with CRO (Central Reservations Office) you'll only have to put down a deposit equal to one night's stay. The balance will be due on check out.
