December 03, 2005 Western Magic?

Here it is.....
Thinks I am glad I did ::yes::

Joined the Cruise Meet Thread – With much trepidation, I posted on the “Cruise :grouphug: Meet” thread for our cruise. I mean, how do I know these people aren’t axe murderers? This actually became our DIS Group Mantra – because ya never know!?! My one concern I had about cruising with just DH was who will we be seated with at dinner? Thanks to the Cruise Meet Thread, I met not one couple but a whole group of people to ‘link’ with for dinner….we like each other so much, we have 2 more cruises planned!!! So don’t hesitate, take the plunge and see what happens……if they ARE axe murderers – pretend you don’t see them after the DIS Meet….. :cool1:

Upgraded to a Verandah – this proved to be a :cheer2: WONDERFUL experience – as we had 3 days at sea and time to relax. I am an early riser and DH is not – so I was able to be ‘outside’ without having to get up and out of the cabin. I also liked being able to go outside at ANY time of day or night. I don’t know if I would get one for a 3 day as there just isn’t much down time but would for a 4 day with a day at sea. Since I slept with the curtain open, I always had a FULL ocean view. I wouldn’t take a stateroom with a solid metal verandah as it blocks so much of the view. If I couldn’t get a ‘regular see thru” verandah room, I would book a large porthole room over a metal verandah room anytime.

Canceled my High Tea Resies – by Thursday, we really needed the ‘unscheduled’ time. We packed a lot of fun in the past 5 days so wanted to relax our last day at sea. We also tended to eat lunch a little on the late side (2:00-3:00) because of our late seating dinner so the Tea at 3:00 just wouldn’t cut it.

Didn’t buy the Rain Forest Pass – I planned on purchasing this for Tom and I and thought the price was $49. When I arrived on board, I found out it was now $75. I hesitated more because I was annoyed at the 50% price increased! As the week progressed, I realized that I really didn’t have any extra time to lounge in there. We really enjoyed staying outdoors by the Quiet Cove Pool. I don’t think I would have been able to drag DH away from Deck 9, anyway.

Ordering 2 appetizers – I was a little hesitant at first but this is something we really enjoyed – allowed us to try different foods in small amounts! Several times I enjoyed my appetizers more then my main course.

Room Service Coffee and Continental Breakfast – Glad I read about this on the DIS boards. It was so nice to use the door hangtag each night and decide when to have it delivered. This was a very efficient system – if we chose 8:00-8:30, it was always there by 8:05 – a really nice way to start each day.

No “Planned” Excursions – We decided to do the Islands on our own and it was a good decision for us. We like to snorkel :fish: and we were able to do it on our own in St Thomas. On the other hand, it could have been a disaster – when we arrived at the car rental place, one agency had NO cars and at the other, we got the last car! Also, it is very difficult to park at Coki Beach – there were only about 10 spots and we got one!!! So that could have been very disappointing. I think for the future I will do my ‘homework’ a little more thoroughly.

Get a manicure/pedicure – this was a relaxing, almost 2 hour service for under $100 – I felt it was a good value for the money and a nice spa experience.

Have lunch on Deck 9 – we only went to the dinning room one day for a buffet lunch – too much time! (edited to add that the food was nicely served in Parrot Cay and was good - actually, we went the day of the asian buffet that was also served at Topsiders just 'looked' so much nicer - Topsiders was a 'madhouse' - very crowded, no place to sit - NOISY - just not pleasant in ANY way) It was so nice sitting outdoors and eating near the Quiet Cove Pool (edit-with food from Pluto's and Scoops - never had the pizza from Pinocchio - not a pizza lover except gourmet from PALO). We went to Topsiders once felt like we were in a school cafeteria and couldn’t get a seat – so no more chances for that..LOL. How do they make those ‘drawer’ hamburgers from Plutos' taste so good? (Edit - try various 'toppings' like guacamole on burgers, YUM!)

PALO Brunch – Loved it!!! It was really nice being in PALO in the daytime…there is a beautiful panoramic view from this room.

PALO Dinner times 2 – Again, loved it. We skipped Animator’s Palate both times…not my favorite place – no windows! Our first dinner as a couple was just okay….our server did little to enhance the experience and forgot our pizza order (luckily we had already been there for brunch so knew this was a fluke!) …but the second time with our DIS group was truly outstanding.

Things I wish I had done :sad2:

Got off the ship sooner at Castaway Cay – we really dawdled around and by the time we got off, took a few pictures and did a little shopping, it was lunch time. I never did get to snorkel :fish: there as the water was cool at Serenity Bay Beach and it was then too late to go over and snorkel at the Family Beach snorkel area. (the weather had gotten cloudy and cool :earseek: )

Seen more shows – we always seemed to have something else to do! I will definitely make time to see at least 2 BIG productions and go to the ‘adult’ entertainment a few nights as well. This time we only went to Golden Mickey’s and the 80’s :rockband: Time Warp Show. I will also consider matinees for the ‘big’ shows when we are at sea, frees up the evenings.

Wander around the ship – there really were so many beautiful areas to see and photograph – wish I had done more.

Take the Bridge Tour – why didn’t I do this??? Hmmm…definitely next time!

Use the Spa Showers – Didn’t realize you can use the showers and sauna in the locker room at the spa even without a treatment – more spacious and great products….maybe I shouldn’t mention it here, either….shhhh.

Spend time on Deck 4 – Actually, you couldn’t spend time there – the seas were so rough. Spray was constantly wetting this deck. But I will TRY the next time, as it looks so wonderful!

Go to The Cove Cafe - DH is not as big a coffee fan as I am - but after seeing some pictures posted with the fabulous drinks :drinking1 - I'm there! I never even stuck my head in to check it out,,,,why not? We spent a great deal of time on Deck 9 at the Adult Pool - can't imagine why I didn't even go in...LOL.

Thanks for posting, Pat. Great information about the stingrays! I loved stingray city in GC, but we decided to do a tour of the island this time, since Chichihoney is not real fond of sea creatures :confused3 . At least I will get my "ray" time in CC on this cruise. :teeth:

I'm in my insane packing mode today. I am determined not to pack too much this trip, and so far my determination is failing miserably.

Heading out in few minutes to see Harry Potter at the Imax. Need a break.

Pat, I loved reading your write up. It really brings the trip to life!!! We leave on Tuesday morning and I'm not packed. Why am I on these boards!!!!

Diane-Good job, you must be packing!!

I've not seen a libarary on board either. I usually go to Half Price Books and buy a couple paperbacks. When I'm done I can pass them along to someone else.

The meet at Atlantis sounds great. Is the kids pool near the water slides???

All for now, I've got to finish packing..... :)

Gailyn :bounce:

Linda & Gailyn,

Yes, you should both be packing and unpacking and repacking - just like me.
As Linda knows, it is rather miraculous that I even have the suitcase out much less that it has any clothing near it at all.....but I am working the next 2 days and I want to relax and work on my luggage tags and door signs and Mickey head regalia tomorrow evening....boy, am I busy!

Hi Everyone,

I am almost packed, yeah!

Just a few more things to get together and I will be done before Wednesday. Tomorrow I have to take my "new" laptop back to the store for repair so I won't miss it too much. The bad thing is having to move everything off my harddrive onto my old laptop, like I need to do this at this busy time.

I called 1-888-325-2500, choose "reservations" then ask what movies are showing on our cruise, here is a partial list. I couldn't understand the lady even though I ask her two or more times:

Finding Nemo
Chicken Little
Ice Princess
The Incrediables
Nano the Lion
Pirates of the Carribbean
Dark ______
Fly ________
The Greatest Game Ever Played

Hope everyone has a safe trip and I can't wait to meet everyone.

Is everyone going to watch the Disney on the Food Channel at 9 PM?

Pat,
Thanks for posting the weather in Orlando. I can't wait to be on vacation!! :cool1: As you said, I've procrastinated, packed, and unpacked so many times it will be a miracle if we arrive at the airport on time with all our intended luggage. Two years ago we were in such a hurry to get to the airport we left the suitcase with all the kids clothes in it upstairs!!! What a nightmare. We had to buy them each an outfit and a swim suit (mind you this was late Oct and all the shorts and bathing suits were put away for the winter!!!). I still look back at the pictures from that trip and laugh when I see the kids in their "uniforms". Luckily we were staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge and we had a washer and dryer.

Anyway, I'm procrastinating again. Off to do more packing :sunny:

See you all soon,
Gailyn :Pinkbounc

Just wanted to write and ask those of you who haven't left yet to wish good thoughts for our cruise. I was reading some other posts and saw that the 11/19 Magic cruise couldn't tender at Grand Cayman, and the Wonder cruise at the same time couldn't dock at Nassau. Here's wishing us good weather and safe travels!!

We're not leaving until Friday, and are spending the night at the airport hotel (Thanks to Priceline!) We're aiming to get to the port around 10:30 or so on Saturday. We have some green mickeys, but I'll be the one chasing the toddler around while the grandparents watch! See you all down there.

Cathleen

I can't believe we are leaving in less than a week and I'm not done packing! No tree, no Christmas decorations.... What have I been doing? I think I work best under pressure! ::yes::

Just picked up some HD Green Mickey heads! Only had two of them. Hope to make them into stickers.

Nassau - Dolphin Encounter.... We booked this through Disney so I know they are offering a trip? I haven't told the kids yet since I don't want them to be disappointed. I hope we can get to the island? Let's hope for calm seas!

I am planning to get to the port around 11:00. DH and I don't always agree on getting places early. He doesn't care too much for crowds. I just keep telling him that we can board at 12:00.... ;)

Movies..... No Narnia? Bummer!

Well....almost here. I'm in Tampa right now. Just bought the in-laws a honkin' huge T.V. and they almost keeled over. FYI...that wasn't my intention. ;)

On a huge shoe hunt for Stride Rite saddle shoes (called Gee Wiz) only sold at the outlets. I finally found the pair at the outlet center in Orlando! They are holding them until today....and we get there tomorrow!! Hopefully they will extend our hold.

Other than that, the only thing we forgot was my razor. That was a quick fix. I finally found out what MVMCP stands for. I will have to check into that. Is it extra moola? I would assume so. I can't imagine anything free.

I have some important questions for you guys....
1. Can Jack bring a bottle opener on board?
2. Can Jack bring a bottle of wine on board?
3. Can Jack bring a bottle of rum on board?
4. Do you tip the guys who bring your room service in the morning? If so, how much? I'm usually asleep and totally forget. I bet they hate me!

I just saw the weather forcast (thanks!) and now I see that it's going to be all thunderstormy tomorrow at WDW. :umbrella: That stinks! I don't have a rain jacket either. Guess I can buy one of those goofy ponchos. Not Goofy, but goofy. :teeth: I think I'd like it better if it was Goofy!
I thought we were checking in tonight and I was wrong. We are checking in tomorrow! That means we have to drive from Tampa to Orlando to go to the parks. Blech!

Great news! When we got to the car rental, I simply batted my eyes and asked if there were any free upgrades. He sort of squinched his face and said "well...I could give you a mini van". Yahoo!! I'll take it. He looked at me like I was nuts. Come to find out, it has a DVD player in it as well. The kids are totally jazzed! We stopped at Target and grabbed a couple of movies. They are in hog heaven! :cloud9:

Off to drink fresh squeezed oj from my in-laws backyard!
I'll be checking in again tonight.
Aloha,
Kitty
safe travels! :wave2:

Well I am packing, unpacking, repacking, I need more time. Anyone else afraid they will forget something. A couple of questions.

Does anyone know is their a phone number my parent can use to call the ship in case of emergency. (They are watching our puppies).

Does anyone know with all the changes which night is formal, semiformal, and pirates night.

Does anyone know if you use the internet cafe, do i need to set up a special email, or can I use my yahoo account.

Thanks

Connie

Kitty ... answers to your important questions
1. Can Jack bring a bottle opener on board? - yes, we did, but not the kind with the can opener on the other side (sharp thing) ... just as simple bottle opener.
2. Can Jack bring a bottle of wine on board? .. yes as many as he wants and he can leave one bottle in my room to chill, but there's nothing I can do if the room steward drinks it.
3. Can Jack bring a bottle of rum on board? ... yes. And there is fruit juice at the drink station - makes a nice rum punch. It is suggested that you put the rum, beer and wine in your carry on because if it breaks a lot of clothes will be smelling like drunks. We found run in plastic bottles. Much lighter to carry.
4. Do you tip the guys who bring your room service in the morning? If so, how much? I'm usually asleep and totally forget. I bet they hate me! We usually tip $1 or $2 .. depending on how much we order.

Connie - since you didn't have drink :drinking1 questions I can't answer any of your questions. Sorry!!

NO .. I'm not finished packing. But I did run out last night and get a new suitcase. This summer we bought a really nice, somewhat expensive Samsonite one. You know ... it will last forever - not like the ones we had to throw out because they fell apart. But guess what ??? ... it weights 12 POUNDS!!! - with nothing in it. Airlines are charging $25 or $50 if you go over 50 pounds and we would have been over easily. So now we have a nice cheap, LIGHT suitcase. OH, but if it would only just pack itself!!! AND... if only all of our stuff would fit in just 2 suitcases. It would if DH and DS didn't have to bring anything!!

Connie,
Phone Number for while on ship: 888-322-8732. They will have to select option 1 for the Magic. Must have your name and they'll be put through to your stateroom (have voice mail in case you're out). Warning: Ship-To-Shore rates apply and are expensive ($7.00-$9.50 per minute) so not to be used for simple chit chat.

As far as we know, formal night is still Monday. Usually pirate night is Wed and semi-formal on Thursday but they may switch that around since we'll be in Nassau on Thursday.

Internet Cafe - you can get unlimited usage for the week frp $89.99. Otherwise it's like 75 cents a minute. The fees are billed to your stateroom.

Hope that helps!

Well we have finally decided. We will be going to Atlantis too. Booking room through Comfort Inn/Suites. I know there is a meet at the kids pool, did we pick a time. If so when are most of you that haven't left yet heading to Atlantis. Leaving Thursday Morning, just have to pack the piles of stuff on the spare room bed. See you all at 3 pm in the Promenade Lounge

Connie

Hi Connie,

I'm still home, one more day. We leave Thursday morning. I think we are all pack, bills paid, just a few things to wrap up and a few loads of laundry.

I will be going to Atlantis, not sure what time we arrive in Nassau but as soon as we can depart the ship we will. Popovich and Mustanggirl are going with their families. We all have kids, I have a daughter, Ryleigh 6, Popovich has DS6 and DD8, Mustanggirl has two daughters. If they picked a time for a meet I must have missed it, let me know if you find out.

My cabin in 6126 hopefully we will see you Saturday at 3PM.

Hi Sarah....glad you made it,,,see you at the airport tomorrow...I am printing out our signs now!
Love U :grouphug:

Atlantis Meet - I just set it for noon. If someone has a better time (and place) just let us all know at the Sat DIS Meet. We'll be heading over there as soon as we dock - want to get our money's worth and enjoy it as long as we can. We'll be hanging out at the kid's pool (I hope there aren't 10 of them or we'll never find each other) all day probably.

We leave for the airport in less than 6 hours. Might be a good idea if I got some sleep..... but just ONE MORE post. Can't wait to meet everyone and start relaxing and boy do I need to relax!!!!

BYE!!!! :cool1:    :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
