Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

At WDW adults can only wear costumes for MNNSHP. I can see allowing it for the pirate party, but even then (becuase it is soooo much like the "real" one) and certainly at other times I think it is kind of dangerous to allow someone whose costumes is so "good" it fools even adults and who stays "in character" rather than telling everyone he is just a guest to wander freely on the island/ship. I am sure he is a nice guy who just really like that character and dressing up, but it could so easily turn into a bad situation where a child or parent trusts this "employee" and something goes wrong.

I hear ya gal!

Always the protective parents here. Appreciate that input!

It is one of the newer ones - but not the newest (Bay Lake Towers at the Contemporary and the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs are both newer) - AKV has two sections: Jambo House is in the original Animal Kingdom Lodge hotel where they have converted some rooms to DVC units while Kidani Village is a new all-DVC building close to the original AKL.

AH yes--it is KIDANI that we are staying at (the newer of the AK villas). I think it opened in May? Anyway, it will be fun for us to experience DVC first hand--though our big excitement is the week with my best friend and his husband. So, from what I understand, Kidani is pretty far from the main lodge and our chances of bumping into one another will be pretty low. Too bad. AT least I will get to see you soon on the ship.

Thanks:goodvibes I was afraid everyone would think I was as killjoy. Don't get me wrong I thnk it is great fun to dress up and go pretty far doing it--just not to go so far as to be confused with CMs or to maintain the costume beyond the party. Anyway, I am sure he is a very nice guy, but we are sailing with someone who dresses to that level on our 2010 trip (I think it may be the same person mentioned earlier on this thread) and I have (and will keep doing so) told the kids to stay away from Captain Jack on that ship (not thier favourite character anyway thankfully) AND shown them the posted photos of this person and told them to be extra catious around him just in case. I hate to think that way about anybody, but I would hate for soemthing to happen to my kiddos even more.

You will really like Kidani. We stayed there in early June and mid August. It seems much more cozy than in Jambo House in the lobby area and is quieter. The rooms, especially the 1 bedroom villa, was much nicer than the 1 bedroom villa we have had at Jambo House (which we still loved too). It took us about 10 minutes to walk between Kidani and Jambo House. We had a rental car in August, but in June we took Disney transportation. All the busses that leave Kidani except for the Downtown Disney bus stop at Jambo House next if you wanted to take a bus there. You can take the DTD bus from Jambo House which stops at Kidani next. When we took busses from the parks, they dropped us off at Kidani first before going to Jambo House.

The absolute only thing I don't like at Kidani is there is no quick service restaurant so if you are on the dining plan you either have to pay out of pocket at the pool bar / in room dining or go to the Mara at Jambo House.
I'm sure in time there will be one because a lot of DVC guides have mentioned a lot of people are unhappy about it.

I saw this link on another thread. I have been reading the DCL 2011 rumors and this was in there about Alaska as was some information about going to Hawaii--

Also, if you are Castaway Club members and log on the DCL website, you can see the tier level you are in along with your past cruises--right down to the stateroom and reservation #. Looks like they have some nice benefits!!

Just got out of a 3-hour+ butt chewing by my client's client here in Ottawa. Flew in to cover for my client at a meeting regarding some future construction.

MAN! Do I ever need a break now!!!!:eek::eek:

Pleeeeeeze Tell Me that this cruise will be wonderful and something to just take all my stress away!

Sounds fantastic. Thanks for the info:flower3: I don't mind not having counter service on sight (the only night we plan on being back in time for dinner we are eating at Sanaa) except that I will miss getting a refilllable mug. I guess I'll just have to have drinks in the room.

Tower that sounds VERY stressful. Rough day:hug: for you, eh? I WILL tell you the cruise is the single most relxing vacation you can take. You will be pampered all day long. You can sleep in if you want. All your food will be made for you. Your room will get cleaned twice a day. If you get bored you can go to activities from sun up to long past sun down but you do not have to do a thing:goodvibes Dave says he feels the stress start to melt away as he steps onto the escalators in the terminal and it is GONE by the time we board and hear our name annonced.

They do have one to Fairbanks, Denali National Park & Reserve, Kenai Peninsula

Wow, that's an expensive trip! I thought we paid a lot for the Princess portion of the cruisetour on land but that was a bargain compared to Disney. It's not a very good itinerary, to tell you the truth, and way over priced. I hate to say that about Disney but for Alaska, it doesn't look like Disney is in my future. I would not recommend that Adventure.

Just booked our Candlelight Processional dinner for the 12th...still need to book our resort for the night though!:santa:

Can you please add us to the the roll call also and the FE?
It is myself Deirdre and Husband Ed

We are checking in 12/4/2009 at AKL and will extend our trip to Beach Club from 12th- 14th

Will do:thumbsup2 And, welcome and congrats on your first cruise (warning they are addictive):goodvibes

Today was Marika and Rio's first day at a German public school. They were absolute nervous wrecks about it for the last couple of weeks, but I am happy to say it went well and they came home feeling much better.

I have no idea why but today I am super excited about cruising in december, I think it is because it is cold outside and my mind thinks it is getting closer to december........September and cool weather are pretty rare around here...lol

:dance3::dance3::dance3:Less than 3 months to go....:dance3::dance3::dance3:

So, I guess they've got the language down now eh? If you guys want to keep secrets from those around you on the ship, just speak German. Less likely to be understood. (My parents spoke Dutch when they wanted to talk in front of us secretly and, though our French is poor, we occasionally do the same with Canada's second language)

Just the same, I'm sure they'll be ready to adjust to English for the cruise;)

I found this on another thread and thought it would fun to do here for the FE to get to know each other. Please PM me when you fill it out so I can make a list and then forward it to the others who are participating in the FE. You don't have to answer everything. Thanks

Is that one of the newer DVC villas? Sorry I am not up on DVC names--but I know we are staying at one of the newer villas with my best friend the week before the cruise. We are seeing Fantasmic Friday night (6:30 show) and hten going to head back for an early evenign to do laundry and pack up before the cruise. Maybe we will bump into you.

Bears? Is that football (actually I do know that is Football--Chicago I think, but I am notoriously bad about actually not knowing who a team is or when a game is). Not a single member of my household follows any pro sports so we tend to be kind of oblivious:upsidedow

We have loved to dress up for Pirate night in the past. Not as all out as some (homemade costumes by me) and NOT with a Disney theme. However, I did not have space to bring any costumes (other than Rio's shirt) when we moved. Fabric here is outrageously expensive (basic broadcloth seems to run about 9 Euros a meter:eek:) so I am not sure if I will manage to pull somehting together or not. I think we are sailing with your "Captain Jack" on the TA. Honestly it bothers me that DCL let him off the ship in costume at Castaway Cay. Sorry--off my soap box now:rolleyes:

Heading over to page 40 to add you now:thumbsup2

Hi nhdisneylover,
I agree with you totally about the fake jack sparrow. not good.
I don't have kids with me anymore, but if I did, I would be a little
wary of strangers like him. we will be doing the pirate tshirts for pirate night
with some comfy jeans.

I thought we might recognize you by your german accent around the ship,
but you are from CT?
