My DS32 and I had scheduled a holiday trip long before Dec 6 was announced as the opening day of FLE, the new TT and the Jack Sparrow walkthrough attraction at HS, and we were apprehensive that the crowds might be overwhelming. For the most part, though, the park crowds were manageable and we were able to see and do most everything we wanted. We had made a last minute trip by trading our timeshare for a week at Old Key West in September when the parks were all empty, so it was mainly the new attractions and the holiday stuff that were our priorities this time. Some observations follow:

First, the new stuff. I was slightly underwhelmed by the FLE. The area felt small and congested, though a lot of that may be because of the walls circling the mine train construction area. It was very pretty to look at, though, especially the BatB area. We were able to have breakfast at Gaston's (the cinnamon rolls just aren't as good served cold) and a late lunch at Be Our Guest (so gorgeous, and we liked the food very much!). We never made it to Belle's Storytime, sadly--the wait time ranged between 50-70 minutes whenever we passed through, and I just won't wait that long for any attraction. I was disappointed with the VotLM ride the first time but liked it better the second time, I guess because I no longer was expecting something extraordinary. The little crab game was very cute, but the ride is short and it felt very rushed to me. The "under the sea" effect works well, though, and, again, it was pretty to look at. We're long past the character greeting stage so didn't investigate Ariel's Grotto, and we'd seen the Circus area in September so we didn't go back.

We both thought the Jack Sparrow attraction was cleverly done and impressive technologically. I honestly didn't realize that Jack was a projection! As for TT, we used a fastpass so didn't get to design our own car, and the ride itself was the same, as others have noted. We planned to ride a second time on our last day, but the fastpass line was an estimated half hour wait and we were afraid to chance missing our ME pickup so we gave our fastpasses to a father and daughter and headed for the hotel.

We stayed at A of A in the Little Mermaid section, and although the room decor is whimsical and charming and we were glad we chose to stay there, I doubt we'll go back unless it's in one of the suites, for the simple reason that the LM rooms are such a long distance from Animation Hall and the bus stops. I do have a tip to share--if you're leaving a park for the night and the bus stop for A of A is jammed as it was for us at MK during evening EMH, consider taking a Pop Century bus instead. The walk through POP and across the bridge to A of A isn't bad at all.

We had no problem at all with the bus system. More often than not we found buses waiting when we needed them, and our average wait time was below 10 minutes. We did a lot of park hopping and returned to our room nearly every afternoon, so we rode a lot of buses! We actually were the only people on the bus twice, something which happened to us in September but we didn't expect this time. We also managed to snag rides on plain white buses which were more like the ME buses several times. The plush seats were a nice change from those hard plastic and metal ones... We felt very special, of course!

One thing we commented on just about every day is how obvious it is that many, many people just don't bother to do their homework before their trip. It baffles me to listen to folks talking and realize that they have no idea what they are in line for, what time the parks close, when the parades or fireworks begin, or even how many parks there are. We were heading back to the hotel to relax for an hour or so before evening EMH at Epcot and heard a group wondering what they'd do for the evening. They thought the park was closing at 7:30. Apparently they didn't even look through the folder everyone gets when they check in! Considering how much a WDW trip costs, doesn't it make sense that you'd want to maximize your time by planning ahead and taking advantage of things like EMH? (I know, preaching to the choir here...)

All in all it was a great trip. The weather was mild and dry other than on our EMH night at MK, when it rained for several hours. I was prepared for it to be colder than it was, and was very glad that at the last minute I tossed several extra pairs of shorts in my suitcase. I wore them nearly every day. :cool1:

Any questions?

Thanks for sharing your observations...

How was the WiFi signal at AoA?

I was there a couple of weeks ago and overheard a few of them in at least 2 of the lines when we were waiting. And I don't mean one person taking their group onto a ride they weren't sure of, I mean an entire group wondering if they were in line for a ride or a show. :)

Reminds me of a youtube clip where a CM spends several minutes trying to convince a guest that TGMR is a ride, not a show or a movie...

I was there during the same time and agree with all of your observations, but I was at Pop.

I stayed at AoA LM rooms in October and yes, like you, I won't be back anytime soon.

WiFi has been VERY weak in the resorts I have stayed since it became free (Kidani, AoA, Pop, ASMusic.)

We were at AoA Nov24-Dec9 we had 4 rooms and it was hit and miss wifi worked in our suit only in the Main bed rood behind the left side of the TV... Go figure... On of the other rooms got it good in the livingroom space they were now the most popular room... Third room got nothing and forth room didn't try. I was frustrated with the wifi I would rather pay $10 a day for good connection when I want it rather than poor for free.

I was there from Dec 6 to the 13th. We spent our first night at AoA, in a LM room. Yes, it's a longish walk from there to the main areas...especially when having to walk back and forth 3 times in order to get your room key situation worked out!!!! But, the walk is no different than the walk from bldg 2 at Pop.
I found the buses at AoA to be just okay. I was suprised to find longer waits than usual...I have stayed at Pop 5 times now and never had waits as long as at AoA. Not sure why.
Then, I moved to SSR, while my friend moved to BWV.
The funny thing??? We both thought the Little Mermaid attraction was quite nice, and much longer than we thought it would be. Just goes to show how the exact same thing can be different for various people!!

We found the Jack Sparrow walk-thru disappointing. Not what I had hoped for. But, I'm an adult woman, so perhaps youngsters will like it more.
TT was fine. I enjoyed the newly designed areas, while my friend did not.

I thought the parks were much more crowded than usual for this time of year. No matter where we went, we ran into longish wait times with a lot of company in each park.

I came home feeling very blah. Really not looking forward to going again. Of course, I may have hit the Disney wall....30+ trips since '99!!! May be time for a break!!! Of course, since I've been to WDW in early Dec about 10 times now, I wasn't expecting the weather we had...hot/humid!!! I actually considered swimming!! It was rainy on one day though. Got pretty wet that time. Then, Thursday, the 13th, was chilly and misty.

Good seeing you and Karen there, Diane. And I bet, you will be there next year too. :cool1:

Probably Dan, but thinking of moving my trip to the week right after Thanksgiving. We'll have to see how life shakes out. Good seeing you too!!! Wish I could have spent more time chatting though. Oh well!!

We were there Dec 4-11. We stayed at POR riverside in a royal guest room. I really liked the resort, especially that it was more of a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. My only dissapointment with the resort, and I know it's minor is the LED lights in the room. I was so excited about seeing the lights in the headboards and the kids couldn't wait ti turn them on and lay in bed. The problem is, they only stayed lit for approximately 90seconds. The boys would push the button and by the time they got under the covers, the lights were off! I loved the resort but wouldn't pay extra for the room again. I will definitely stay here again if the opportunity arrises.
As for the parks, we did feel that it was more crowded than we originally anticipated. We did plan and book our trip well before the announcement of fantasy land. We have a son with has sensory problems so it made for a crazy trip. We have been to disney before and have to alter our plans for my son. However, this trip he had a really hard time. His triggers were different and his sensory reactions to those situations were far different that we were expecting. By the third day it became clear that we had to alter our plans or be miserable the entire time. There were a lot of times that we might have seemed "planless" and I guess we were. For some poepl, not having a plan or wandering about seems like a waste of money. I suppose it is, based on how much it costs to go to WDW. For us, we can't get it all done and see it all. BUT, if we have a trip where all of us have a good time, then it's worth it. My idea of a great time is different than my sons but that doesn't mean that we can't both have a great time. It's all about comprimise.
We will absolutely go back, in a couple of years. Hopefully Dylan will cope a little better, and he can enjoy the trip as much us his brother and parents. But if his idea of a great trip is walking around and just observing, we will incorporate it into the rest of our idea of fun.
I am most happy that he says that he had fun :)

We did go on the new VotLM ride, I thought it was cute, but I probably wouldn't wait 120 minutes to experience it. I would love to eventually see or eat at the beasts castle also. This was the first trip that we pin traded. My younger son seemed to really enjoy this while dad and brother were on rides. This was also the first time that I have really seen vinylmation figures. I think it may become a facination for my husband :rotfl2: I think he bought 6 of them while we were there!!

Just my two cents on my trip.
