Dec. 2, 2007-4 night Wonder and MouseFest Cruise

Erm.......why would I see you in the gym or in the pilates and yoga classes?????:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Do come along to our meet on Deck 10 at Sailaway. We are supposed to be wearing lime green but we will forgive you not doing so!!! Just look for a small group of lime green folk.

We're planning on going on the guided walk. Need some exercise and were thinking of just getting off the ship for a stroll anyway.

Thank you Marilyn. I will definitely do that. Lime green folks...hmmm... I am sure you will all stand out.

Is there a forum to post pictures of of ourselves so that we can recognize each other before we board the cruise? It will be nice to match faces with some of the oh-so-helpful people who have kindly responded to my questions in this forum?

Benjamin:
The first coach will leave MCO about 9:30 - 9:45. Marc and I are staying at the MCO Hyatt the night before so you'll probably see us in the waiting area. When you go to the check-in area (I think it's on Side B of the airport) for DCL transfers you'll be given a card, either a W, O, N, D, E, or R. You then get to patiently (HA!) wait for them to call the groups to board. Once on board it's about a 45 - 50 minute ride to the port. You can check in right away (there'll be folks there to assist in filling out any paperwork that you may have questions on) and then it's a waiting period for entry to the ship. They board at approximately 12 noon in an order based on a card you received upon going up the escalator. It moves VERY quickly.

My suggestion to you is not to go to the dining room (Parrot Cay) or buffet (Topsiders) right away but check in to where you can make your Palo reservation, if you've decided you'd like to do that. Once that is handled (and it might take a few moments) then head to lunch. Both areas are buffet-style lunches. If you go to Topsiders you have a choice of inside or outside dining. If you stay with Parrot Cay it's a very relaxed time in the restaurant.

I believe rooms are ready at 1:30. Your luggage may or may not already be at your room.

Looking forward to meeting you! Glad you're able to get this vacation in. Stress at work is not a good thing! Think relaxation!

Michael

Again, loads of invaluable information. Thanks, Michael! I will be in Orlando (alas alone too) 3 days prior to departure and doing the usual theme parks - Mickey's Very Merry Christmas, Epcot and Disney MGM - so time is within my control. What do you look like? Will you be in lime green? I will look out for you and race you to Wavebands (to place our reservations at Palo's :flower3:) Can we make multiple bookings? I would definitely like to try brunch AND dinner there. What's the attire for brunch? I know that for dinner, men are required to wear a jacket but do we have to strangle ourselves with a tie as well?

So let's see...if I am on the first bus out at 9:30 and I arrive at the port say at 10.30, and we don't board till noon, that's a good one or so hour wait to board. I guess it is a small price to pay to be first on board. :thumbsup2

I am looking forward to meeting you too. Is there a way for us to forward our pictures to each other so that we don't act like bumbling strangers for the first time?

You don't need to wear a jacket at Palo dinner unless you want to take one. I believe a smart shirt with or without a tie is ok for the 4 night cruise. For brunch smart trousers and shirt too.

Found this post on another cruise board and thought it was good enough to reprint here:
here are a few tips that may help you with planning for the cruise.

.early arrival gets an early boarding pass number.
2.terminal opens 10 a.m.
3.boarding starts around 11:30 to noon.
4.keep camera with you at ALL times, even in the terminal. characters will appear there for photos. outdoor viewing area of the ship for photos.
5 check in at kids club table while waiting to board ship. saves you time on the ship.
6. take a few ones. some for room service tips some to tip porters who take your bags at the termnal. They dont get any wages for their work, tips only for their wages. $1 per bag is customary.
7. take small bills for the islands. many small shops dont have change.
8. if your going to use your credit card on the islands, call your CC company first and tell them or you will have to wait on a phone call to ok all your purchases. This is a big hassle and can take 30 minutes or more.
9. most shops who take credit cards, require a $20 minimum purchase.
10 take camera to dinner each night, surprizes happen all the time. You wont be alone. you will even see cam corders at dinner.
11. arrive at all shows 20 minutes early for good seats.
12. arrive at character meets 10 minutes early
13 Princess meets arrive 15 minutes early
14. on Castaway cay if you want your photo taken with Captain Jack Sparrow, do NOT ride the tram to the beach area. It does NOT stop near him. You must walk in to the beach signs say 20 minute walk in it takes us 10 minutes. he will be along the way in the sand and photo has the flying dutchman behind you, great photo! Check navigator for times he will be there.
15 There are characters along the way to the beach, ok to ride the tram for this. Lines are short and move quickly so it is a great opportunity to see characters without lines. check navigator for times and places.
16 also characters appear at the gazebo near cookies BBQ on the island during the day.
17 adult only beach has it's own area for lunch they often have steaks or lobster there as a special treat for the grown ups. But Cookies BBQ by family beach has more variety of other foods.

18 dont miss the good bye late the last night in the atrium. ALL the characters will line up on the stairs and will pose for photos for you. This farewell party is really nice and fun.

19 check for photos everyday at shutters. buy a package deal and save $$ if you dont buy enough photos for the package deal they will refund you the difference at the end of your cruise .
or if you buy a photo and then decide the next day you see one you want more, just bring back the one you bought and the receipt and tell them you want to exchange it and they will be happy to do this for you.

20. you can order warm chocolate chip cookies or Mickey ice cream bars from room service even though it is not on the menu.

21. bring 2 white pillowcases or a matte style picture frame in a zip lock baggie with water proof markers and leave at guest services desk ask to be autographed and it will be returned to you the last night all signed by the characters. I also add a card with my name and room number on it just in case their card gets lost. I like to use dark colored markers, the light colors dont show up as well.

22. If you need to change dining times or make a Palos reservation go to Wave Bands club directly upon boarding to take care of this. The sooner you do it the better your chances of getting what you want.

others will add to this and I will too when I have more time.

I can say it is a truly Magical cruise!!

Here's another question (please forgive me as this is my first Disney cruise). We will be out at sea for 4 nights and there are 3 restaurants that we will be rotated around (excluding Palo's). That means that we will return to repeat one restaurant. The logical plan is to eat at Palo's on the last night when you return to the repeat restaurant. However, being as Palo's is so popular, if I had to give up one restaurant, which one would you suggest?

To add to the dilemma, I saw a Pirates Party menu online. Is that for the Pirates party itself or for the night of the party when ALL the restaurants will serve food from that menu?

While we are on the topic of food, is the menu for breakfast and lunch the same everyday and where do we partake of the food? Do you recommend doing brunch at Palo's or is it over-rated compared to dinner? Will High Tea be served at Palo's?

Finally, where can I view a menu of all the restaurants on board?
Your repeat restaurant is nights 2 and 3 with night 3 being the pirates night menu. Last year we got Palos for night 1 so we missed the Parrot restaurant completely. This year I have us booked for night 2 at Palo so we'll miss the regular menu at one restaurant but have the Pirate menu there the next night. Triton's was our night 2 and 3 last year.

Brunch at Palo is FANTASTIC. We did it last year and are doing it again this year.

We ate breakfast at the Topsider (I think that's what it is called) buffet each day. It was pretty similar from day to day but the food was good. Lunch we were generally not on the ship- just day #1 and that we also ate at Topsiders. On the Palo brunch day while at sea, no lunch was needed.

Joy and Michael, thank you for your tips.

What is everyone doing in Nassau. I was going through the shore excursion options and none seem to stand out. Has anyone heard anything about the shore excursions? Are there any must-see sights or must-do activities. What is the best way to spend the day. I am inclined to just walk around on foot to explore the place myself. Is that feasible or should I join a historic city tour?
We did the dolpin encounter last year and liked that quite a bit. This year we'll probably do the Mousefest walking tour and then take ourselves to the pirate museum.

On Castaway cay I highly recommend the parasailing if there are any openings left.

Thank you Joy. What in the world is a Mousefest cruise?

Are there additional activities onboard organized by Mousefest? If so, where can I find a list of activities? Can I join these actitivities? Are they free? I am intrigued by the walking tour.

For those who have been on board before, is there a way to catch repeat performances of the Broadway style shows like the Golden Mickeys without missing your dinner?
This is my 4th Mousefest and my 2nd Mousefest cruise. It's great! Disney lovers from all over get together the beginning of each December. Activities are free. Some you need to sign up for and some you just show up.

We have early dining so that we can eat and then go to the shows each night (which are really very good- top notch Disney quality.) I would not like missing either dinner or the shows to do something else so I skip any Mousefest meets that would cause me to missed dinner/show. The only way you could see the show twice would be to skip your assigned dinner time and eat at one of the fast food kind of places.

Just out of curiousity, are there any "ethnic" choices in terms of food? Is there Chinese, Japanese, Mediterranean etc food available on board?

Benjamin
I honestly don't remember any ethnic food choices on the Wonder. I stuck with the main dining assignments for dinner and Palos (Italian, I'd say.) The food was very good though, especially considering how many people they have to feed at each meal! The fruit is wonderful in particular. You'll never see bigger, fresher strawberries, blackberries, etc. We were told DCL contracts with the fruit growers directly and has their choice of the most perfect fruit on the market. It's a real treat in December when our fruit at home is far from perfect.

Hi guys, just checking in to say thanks for all the last minute tips! I have been taking notes. Also
Happy Turkey Day!!!

Happy Turkey Day back, to all!

Think that SSB also going to do the walking tour o' Nassua. Did have a great time over at Atlantis water park last time, so still a thought...

Yep, you are all set... just bring the guest info/contract that you printed, signed... and fill out customs form for the Bahamas. Just show those with your passport at check in, and on your way.

Look forward to meeting you, and everyone soon!

No, your stroller won't count as a piece of luggage. They also have a limited number of strollers available at the customer service counter.

Rachel

We always gate check the stroller. It doesn't count as luggage and we have it up until we get on the plane and immediately when we get off.

I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just over a week now....it has been cold here and I am ready for warmer weather!:cool2:

Have safe travels!

SSB just took a quick walk over to Epcot to see crowds, and the weather is GREAT! Cool enough to take brisk walk ... and a light breeze. I would say my favorite time of year here. Moved here from Chicago this same time of year, and remember how striking the change was. :)
