Debt Dumpers - 2016

I suspect you may have a better trip then anyways since hopefully more will be open! DH and I discussed going again this year, and probably could swing it, but honestly I don't really want to go right now with so much closed and knowing new attractions will be open. I'd rather put the money aside and go in a couple years when I can hopefully see Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land.

Yeah, our only concern with that is that the crowds will be even more horrendous than usual due to all of the new attractions opening. The crowds really almost ruin the trip for my dad.

I think I am still going to Shanghai though in early July, so I'll spend a couple of days at the new park there if so!

I am having a less than stellar day. Murphy really kicked in this afternoon. I had noticed Saturday night that the headlights on my car weren't very bright, and sure enough one was out. So, I figured I'd go in and get a replacement bulb for both headlights today after work.

That part went successfully. I even broke down and bought a gallon of ice cream, just because.

But then on the way home ...

Day could have definitely gone better.

Oh no!! So sorry about this, @dayvewc!! :( How did it happen?

I was headed home from the store. The highway out of town right there is 4-lanes, 2 in each direction with no turning lane. I was driving along in the left lane, when the truck in front of me switched lanes suddenly. The car in front of him was at a complete stop to make a left hand turn. There was a car to my right, and oncoming traffic to the left, so I hit my brakes, but it had been raining most of the day and the roads were wet. So, my tires just skidded along and *BAM*.

Good part of it - the state trooper who worked the accident decided to not give me a ticket. He said that with the road conditions and layout of the road it appeared to him to have been unavoidable. Even the person I rear-ended was saying that she didn't think there was anything I could have done to avoid it. So, with this declared a "no-fault" accident, my insurance rates shouldn't go up. And I'm not going to have a huge fine to pay.

The almost funny part? I was still in the car, trying to figure out what had happened, when my phone rang. It was my principal from school asking if I was ok. The person I hit, was the sister-in-law to the shop teacher from the school - he stopped to see how we were doing and gave me a ride home from the shop. While we were on the side of the road, I got a call from one of the other teachers and the office secretary stopped by to see if we were ok. I really love my job and all the people I work with.

Thank God you are ok. I'm so sorry for your accident! Do you have full coverage on your car to cover the repairs?

I am sorry for the accident, you may be stiff and sore tomorrow. It was so cheering to read at the end of the message above how lovely and caring your coworkers are.

So sorry to hear about your accident! Glad that you are okay!! Do you think the insurance company will consider your car totaled? It does look pretty bad

I'm so sorry about your accident, @dayvewc! Thank God you are okay! I'm glad the trooper reported it as a "no-fault" accident. Hope everything goes smoothly with the insurance company for you. :wizard:

Yes, I have full coverage. I decided long ago that the extra expense on the insurance was worth knowing I'd at least have a down payment if something like this happened.

And ... I may be overly optimistic. Had another conversation with insurance and they said that while the police may not issue a ticket, it is the underwriters that will determine fault as far as raising my rate. The good part of that is that my renewal is Saturday, so if they decide to raise my rate it won't take effect until November.

I'm so happy that you have the full coverage. As far as increasing rates, does your insurance have "accident forgiveness"? I know some of the insurances in my area do. I think State Farm is one. Your rates won't rise for a single accident. It may behoove you to do your due diligence and shop around just in case you can find a lower rate if they do decide to increase your premium. Fingers crossed that they don't.

Hard place, meet rock. :)

I switched about 2 years ago to that car insurance company that does all the commercials. No, not the one with the lizard, and not the one that sends the agents to the university. The other one, with the spokeswoman with the 1950's hairdo in the white apron, named Flo. :) They do have accident forgiveness but ... there are two levels. I qualified immediately for "small accident forgiveness", meaning it costs less than $500. Sadly, they don't count the years I was accident free before I switched, so I have to be with them for 5 years to qualify for "large accident forgiveness". And Saturday will be 2 years. So, I'll have to go 5 more years accident free to qualify.

Knock on wood, I should be able to do that. It's been about 23 years since my last accident, so I was probably overdue. With just a modicum of luck, it'll be another 23 years before my next accident.

And yeah, if they raise my rates by much, I'll be shopping around. That's how I wound up with the company I'm with now. After 22 years with one company, they more than doubled my rates over 2 years - with no accidents. So I switched, and the new company did the same thing, more than doubled over 2 years. So I switched again 2 years ago. And they have been reasonable so far.

So you have progressive. We have 21st century and have been with them since 2011. Rates keep rising, but for now, we're sticking with them. All things considered, you are blessed because you are alive and well and your car will be fixed.

I went from state farm to 21st century to progressive. Each time i switched it cut my bill almost in half.

And yes, i am very grateful at the lack of injuries.

Wow, I hope you aren't too sore today and you get good news from the insurance. I have the same insurance and we've tested it often. They haven't upped our rates for accidents, just DH's ticket(s). Hopefully, your adjuster won't up it. If so, call the customer service line and talk to them. DD had one CS person that was really rude but all others have been great. The rude one probably isn't there any more. They may have received a call to the supervisors about her. :rolleyes1
