Debt Dumpers - 2016

We are still waiting on our state tax returns to be deposited. I got our updated tags for our vehicles and it ended up being more than I expected, but thankfully Hubs' check was a good one and we had a little extra to cover the overage. I was also very behind on a couple of my credit cards and I made a fairly sizeable payment towards getting caught up. Hopefully, Hubs will have another good paycheck next week and I can get all the way caught up (almost there!!). I get paid next week as well, so after paying the sitter, I plan to use what is left to pay off either the Care Credit or my Kohl's charge.

I use an online bill pay through my credit union to pay almost all of my bills and I love it! It has this feature that you can "hide" your Payees on the list. For example, we paid off our a/c loan, so I "hid" that payee and it doesn't show up on the page. My list of creditors gets shorter. I can still access it to show proof of payment if need be, but it no longer pops up on the screen when I go to pay my bills. So, as I pay off some credit cards, I will "hide" them and watch my list get smaller and smaller. I get this sort of giddy feeling when I get to do that! :)

I pay all of mine online with my bank and I do the same thing! I just "hid" the cc that will be paid off tomorrow! It's a nice little extra incentive to see the list get shorter!

I was wondering if I could ask you all for a little off topic advice? As some of you know, I've been feverishly applying for any job I qualify for in my field. One opened up this morning that asks for a cover letter, resume, and salary requirement. I'm a little stumped as to where/how to put down my salary requirement. Do you put that in the cover letter? Do you put a separate letter stating your salary requirement? Didn't know if anyone here had experience and could tell me how they did it. I didn't really know how to squeeze into my cover letter "also, please pay me XX dollars" haha. TIA!

Put it in the cover letter. State something along the lines of "as requested in the posting, my salary requirement is xx"
I would do this towards the end. Make it its own paragraph break so it is seen.

Here is a post about including salary requirements in cover letters (this site is amazing in general to check out while job searching)

Perfect, thank you so much! I think you may have recommended that website to me on the last Debt Dumpers thread, I should have checked there! :)

I probably have haha. I absolutely love this site for all things job related. I found it at the very end of my senior year of college when I was living the fun life that is a soon-to-be-grad, and it helped me out so much more than the career class I took the semester before.

Its called a secured savings account/loan. We put 500$ from our tax return into a savings account with our credit union. For the next 12 months we will pay 43.06 into said savings account as "payment" so essentially we are building up more savings but it is a loan minus the 16$ total in interest for doing it. We can either leave that original 500 in the account and it will show a balance of 1000 with avaliable 500 + whatever we have "paid" on it. Or we can take that 500 out and it will show a balance of 500 but avaliable of 0 (+anything we've "paid" at that point). I'm not sure if that makes a whole lot of sense. Essentially it's a safe way to build credit. You aren't taking on any new money as a loan and you are building a savings up. I'm already putting X away each month to savings so for me it won't be an additional payment unless I wish to make it so. And it's not like a secured credit card where you don't get your deposit back unless you close out the card. It's all your savings account, you just can't get that additional money until you "save/pay" it.

I've never heard of this. I'm going to have to look into it. Thanks!

I hadnt either and neither had our lending broker. Our credit union offered it to my fiance a few years ago but we never pursued it. I tossed that idea out at her when she mentioned a secured credit card like where you put a deposit on it. She jumped at the secured savings. She had no idea it was a thing, but said it would be an even better option since I'm going FHA loan. I'll have to prove I have 1000 in savings for appraisal, inspector, etc. Two birds with one stone she said.

It's been a good week here. I booked my flights to Orlando in July on air miles points, so that was free. I booked a free nights stay at an offsite hotel for our arrival night using points. I'm paying for our rental car with points. I put $2400 onto my Visa bill.
Now, crossing fingers for a great summer discount for my stay at Port Orleans and I won't damage the budget for my trip.

There are pins out so it could be happening.

I got a pin or unique offer code as they call them now. 30 percent off rooms and if you book 6 park days or more, free park hoppers. I can't us eit though as I'm already doing disney in august. dates are may through aug 25.

Just checked the IRS website, and my return has been approved. Estimated deposit day is Tuesday, Feb 23. Woo-Hoo!!!

Though I am kind of shocked, I haven't heard anything yet on state, and it usually arrives before federal.

Well, Murphy just paid a visit. DH was on the way home on the interstate and a guy in front of him had a large plastic sign in the back of his truck. It flew out the truck and right into DH's car, cracking the front bumper and scratching the paint all down the passenger side. Guy took off so DH didn't get a license plate. So irritating. Advice on where to start? Our deductible is $500, so I don't know if we'll hit that? I would assume so, it's a 2013 car.

So sorry! How infuriating! You could get an estimate first and see, but I too would think it would cost more than $500.

Oh my god that sucks!! And that effing driver, taking off >:( people can be such a-holes.

I would assume that much damage will be over $500.

Thank you both! Yeah it sounds like it will. Neither of us have ever had an accident so I don't even know how much that kind of thing costs! DH called our insurance though and it sounds like we might actually get a $200 deductible? Not sure why, but that's what they said, so that would be nice.

Oh well. Things happen. I guess I should count myself thankful that this happened now as we were planning to go to Lowe's and buy a dishwasher this weekend! We really need a dishwasher, but I know we need to handle this first.

I can relate!

Sometimes I feel like the Lone Rangerand it wears on me. Other times I don't tell him all the details because he'd flip out. Happily married 26 years this year!

Congrats on 26 years!
We are on year 17 and trying to get caught up since we have always had kids. Now we are trying to pay down the bills and put some kids through college.
I think the whole debt reduction and spending freeze is starting to sink in though - recent victory was the Husband not buying a smart TV just because it was on sale and it would be a cool upgrade.
Baby steps....

I paid off my primary doctor account this morning. This was the bill that was reduced by about 80% when they put me on an income based payment. But it's gone now.

That makes 2 accounts this year so far, and I'll pay another one next week when my refund comes in.

I also got notice this week I was accepted into the graduate program, as well as a job offer for this summer to teach again in the same program I've been working for most summers.
