in the parks, I have always used a CC to tie into my room key. Didn't really want to use a CC this time, can I use a debit card?? it is one of those with the visa logo. thanks in advance!!!

I would imagine that you could since it has the Visa logo on it. I don't think they would even know it wasn't a "normal" credit card. But I would call ahead just to make sure.

We always use our debit card for room charges

and also make sure you have an id to go with it for when they check your card if they do. i would also carry a little bit of cash in case you stop at a snack cart that does not take cards, and just cash.

we used our debit card when we went and everytime we used it, they asked for id, and then ran the card, with no problem.

hope that helps,

I have used my debit forn room charge before with no problems

Yup, same here, used my debit card at check-in for my room charging privileges, no difference from a credit card.

Find out ahead of time if your debit card has a transaction limit that might get in your way. Ours has a 24-hour limit and a single transaction limit. Since your room charges are all processed in one big charge, that could pose a problem.

Also remember that hotels usually run a preapproval on your card and that's about $1500 on a week stay even if you only spend $500 the bank still holds that money. I have used mine before also with no problems.

You can always present the hotel with a credit card for charges when you check-in. The resort holds your charges until the end of your stay, as long as you haven't reached your hotel's limit. Upon check-out, you can settle any charges to your room with whichever card you like, it need not be the card you checked in with. One caveat, you must go down to the desk and check-out in person (not sure if Disney resorts allow you to check-out via the TV, like most hotels.)

Also, I remember room-charging privileges were limited to $500 for value resorts, $1000 for moderates, and $1500 for deluxes. You can go over these limits, but the hotel will charge your card for them when you reach the limit before extending you an additional amount.

You can settle room charges with Disney Dollars and Dream Dollars from the Disney Visa, as well.

Have a great trip!!

Disney does not place a "Hold" on your card for charging priveleges. What they do is run a sample transaction (usually $1) to validate the card.

I normally use a CC that has only a $750 limit (to limit the damage to my finances when I get home :rotfl2: ) and have stayed at AKL ($1500 limit) and have had no problems with not having charging priveleges.

I would assume you good but I would not reconmend it. As much as debit cards act the same as a Visa or MC they are not and therefore if there is a mix out or error you could have your funds tied up for awhile.

Why not just charge your room to a regular card then just pay it off when you get home.

I have heard that it's not a good idea to use a debit card to put down at a hotel for charges, because it can tie up the funds in your checking account. However, if you just want to have charging privileges without using a credit card, you can put down either cash or traveler's checks to charge against at the hotel. I have done both with no problem. At the end of my stay if I have money left, they just give it back to me in the form of cash.

We only have a debit card with a Visa logo. We have no credit cards. The debit card has always been accepted at Disney World (we've made eight trips in the past two years since we've gone credit card-less) with no tie up of funds, no problems, no misunderstandings, no nothing. I've used the debit card to make the deposits on our reservations. It's just like a credit card only the place of business gets their money immediately without having to go through a credit card company.

We always use the debit card. Also if you go to the front desk you can get a print out of room charges. We do this several times during our stay.
