According to Drudge; www.drudgereport.com; Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger that he was left off of the speakers' list at President Reagan's funeral on Friday. Aids have said that they "were hoping it would be non partisan, like Nixon's". They also feel that Nancy Reagan vetoed Bill Clinton speaking. Both Presidents Bush will be speaking. At Nixon's funeral, Ford did not speak. There are those that feel its a state funeral and Clinton and Carter should have been able to speak. I don't think that either of them are "entitled" to speak. They should politely attend and quit whining.

There's only a limited amount of time. With so many living ex-presidents, it would be a long service. The first President Bush was Reagan's vice president, so that makes sense and the current President. I'm a democrat and don't have a problem with it.

You actually believe the drudge report?

Yikes!

Personally I don't care one way or the other. I also have serious doubts that President Clinton "privately expressed anger that he was left off of the speakers' list at President Reagan's funeral." Of course, it's hard to swallow a lot of things on the Drudge Report.

Just my 2 cents.

Let's see...

Pres #41 is speaking cause he used to work for Reagan and they were friends.

Pres #43 is speaking cause he's the current president.

Margaret Thatcher and Gorbachev are speaking because they were key players during Reagan's time.

Bill Clinton? He didn't do anything but be succeeding president after Bush & Reagan. Why should he speak?

BTW, I wouldn't believe everything the Drudge writes up.

Do you ever get tired of throwing up these utterly ridiculous stories from trash web sites? I seriously doubt there's any truth to it so there's no point in commenting on it.

If you want those who disagreed with President Reagan's politics to show a little respect, you might want to knock off throwing up these ridiculous "reports" just to slam the other side.

You get what you give you know.

If you don't like the message, shoot the messenger. Drudge has certainly been as credible as other news sources. Where did you first hear the name Monica Lewinski? Drudge broke the story.

I live in Arkansas and am pretty well connected poltically (some of my relatives are fairly prominent Democrats). I don't read Drudge so I'm not sure exactly what his site says, but the story going around Little Rock today is basically what DawnCT reported.

The Democrats here that I talked to are very concerned that this is going to give a lift to GWB. If I were a Democrat I might not be happy with the results of having only Republican speakers, but this is a funeral and the family can do what they choose.

Since Reagan has been suffering from Altzheimers for over a decade, I doubt if he knew Bill Clinton at all so it's not like they had a personal relationship.

Either Drudge needs to recheck their sources, or Clinton needs to grow up.

I wasn't invited to speak either and you don't hear me complaining--

Drudge has certainly been as credible as other news sources

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, but to call drudge credible is beyond ridiculous, no matter how much you like the trash he throws out.

It has nothing to do with liking or not liking the message. It has everything to do with the fact that your so called source is nothing but a low class, trashy website.

Btw....Bush might want to wait until President Reagan is in the ground before he tries making political hay out of his death.

Bush campaign chairman Ken Mehlman posted a tribute to Reagan on the campaign's blog that made several comparisons, including: "Just like President Reagan, President George W. Bush speaks with moral clarity about the enemies of freedom."

Seems a little crass to use the love and respect millions of Americans felt for President Reagan for political purposes.

I saw on the news on Fox tonight that Nancy Pelosi is also complaining that she is not speaking at the funeral.

I think the family should decide who speaks and who does not.

Democrats are worried that Clinton not speaking at Reagan's funeral will give Bush a boost????

Oy!

There are some people that will stoop so low that they could do the limbo at a cockroaches island party.

Can you post a link to Mehlman's comments? I only see one post by Mehlman on the campaign site regarding Reagan and there is no mention of Bush whatsoever in it. Just would like to see the actual remarks.

The family should decide who speaks at the funeral. As for the the Fox (Faux) News report . Here's what Nancy Peolsi said:
“Ronald Reagan served our country with dignity and he died with dignity. As an American, I appreciate Ronald Reagan’s great leadership and service to our country. As a Californian, I admire the special grace and humor that endeared him to millions. I hope it is a comfort to Nancy Reagan and the entire Reagan family that so many people mourn their loss and are praying for them at this sad time.”

I was so hoping someone would ask for my "source". It's none other than the much respected drudgereport.com website. :D

Also in the article:

A version posted on the campaign's official Web Site did not include the comparison

That would explain why you aren't seeing it on the public website. It was only intended to be seen by staff.

Campaign officials said Mehlman's letter was intended for distribution to his staff.

*shrug* then more power to 'em. I don't particularly care what a campaign manager says to his/her staff to get them fired up. Hardly a case of Bush making political hay out of Reagan's death. Bush didn't say it and it wasn't said to the public in any event. A bit deceptive. As for Drudge, I've never particularly trusted any one source on anything, regardless of whether the source is Drudge or BBC News.
