Dear Southwest,
How could you do it?! How could you change the fares while I was preparing to check out?! 5 tickets! Count them! 5! At $82 each way went up to $149?! While I was checking out?! It's not fair. I have loved you and touted your glory. I have praised your name in all circles. I have been a faithful loyal fan and for what? Seriously. I am not sure I can recover, as my whole surprise trip was dependent upon those fares.
:(

So sorry for you... That is such a huge jump :(

Check back at 5 or 6 in the morning and they often go back down in a day or 2 (until someone buys the points allocated at that price). Also try less tickes than the total you need since if you need 5 and only 4 are available at the lower price the system will charge you the high price for all 5 if you do not split it or wait to buy the last couple when the price goes back down.

bookwormde - I was going to suggest the same thing! Try for less tickets.

Also, try back on Tuesday morning.

Try constantly! Our fares dropped $30 since the weekend.

This happened to me with Alamo. Had the car information in and without warning lost the connection on the Alamo site. When I returned seconds later, the price increased $70.00. It's frustrating that we all have to do this :)

Often there are only so many fares at a reduced priced. If when you searched on the fares you only searched on 1 or 2 people (instead of 5) the lower rate may have been shown. There may have never been five seats available at that low rate.

As others have suggested try purchasing less seats (i.e. breaking the reservation into two reservations). You may still be able to get a few of the seats at the lower price.

This happened to me in December. The fare went from $128 to $229.00. I was so mad that I called and asked politely what happen and they told me someone else had already purchased the allotted number of seats in the $128 range.

SW will offer the lowest fare bucket that has the number of seats you need. You might have been able to book 4 seats at $82 and 1 seat at $149.

The exact opposite happend to me. I booked 4 tickets to orlando for about $89 each. A few weeks later Southwest started advertising $60 tickets. The wife has never let me hear the end of that. Oh well, we live and learn. I'll be in Disney in 17 days :thumbsup2

What did you learn? (What did you learn from your wife?)

Thanks guys. :) Lowering my ticket count was the first thing I did, but the fares had actually totally changed. I've never had that happen before. I'll keep checking though. They are bound to go down eventually, right? Just hoping they go down before the 45-day mark. :goodvibes

Oh dear! OH dear! OH DEAR! They dropped already!!! $89 each way instead of the $82, but who cares! I am so happy. I can't even believe it. I'm not quite understanding why they do those things, but I am :worship:. The same non-stop flights I had wanted. Now...to keep checking for them to go lower. ;) I love Southwest. My February trip for just dh and I is $69 each way fares, so here's hoping. April "pre-June baby, last hurrah with our family of 5" surprise trip is official. :cool1:

Glad it worked out for you. That happened to me when I booked a few weeks ago too. It was saying one price and when I tried to book it said the fare had changed, but when picking flights it still kept showing the old price. I waited and later that evening I was able to book at the lower price. This trip is also our last before the new baby arrives. I'll be 32 weeks when we go.

Does anyone have an idea of when S-west will open the schedule up further? thanks

I keep hoping and praying I can find $82-89 tickets! So far the best I've seen is $100.

I would be happy with 100!!!! mine are 160 and up!!!! I am worried that I will have to cancel my tip if the prices don't go down:confused: I really don't want to pay over 800 for 2 tickets:mad:

OH MY HEAD! My tickets just dropped to $69 each way! $200 less than the original tickets I snagged up earlier this evening. Keep looking guys! Tickets are constantly changing. :thumbsup2
