Dear Tropical Storm Irene,
If you must become a hurricane, then do what you have to do, but please head out to sea instead of aiming for Florida on Friday. I will be flying into MCO that night, and I will be quite annoyed with you if you interfere with my plans. So just go ahead and prove the weather forecasters wrong - it's fun to make them look bad.
Your friend - NOT!
Wendy

You mean to tell me there is a hurricane "BARRELING" towards Florida???:scared1::scared1: Cue crisis music!!

I know. I've been in August enough times that this doesn't panic me. I'd just rather not have to deal with flight delays/cancellations. Once we're there I don't care what happens - I just want to get there! And I don't feel like sleeping in an airport either - been there, done that.

It's all over the news here. The kids are hoping for a hurricane day at school Friday. Publix was pushing the bottled water this morning. I hope it blows out to sea.

We fly in on Thursday, and have been watching it too. The flight is what we are worrying about too, Wendy Darling. Just want to get there safely and without delay. Traveling mercies to you!

We fly in on Friday and I am just hoping Irene goes away. I really don't want to be dealing with flight delays from California, while traveling with a 2 year old. It's a long enough travel day as it already is!

Wondering if we should try and change our flight to Thursday.

Oh TS Irene, please come to Texas and cry your eyes out over my lawn and my trees. I would love for you to weep your wet goodness into the soil and refill out empty lakes and streams. But could you please put off your arrival until after we leave for Europe!

Good luck everyone and stay safe! I too am flying in Thursday morning and am getting worried. As of now it looks like we should make it, but it will be cutting it very close. :hyper:

It still too early to tell, (the waiting is the hardest part - I believe Tom Petty put it best ;) ) but it looks like the path is taking a slight jog to the East, which *could* bode well for Florida.

But, this time of the year always sucks.

I've got friends who live in the coastal regions of Georgia, as well as South Carolina AND the outer banks of North Carolina. So it's always a mixed bag of feelings about, "yay ! It might miss FL, but it's heading for you guys instead ! :headache:

Bottom line, it's just too early to tell yet.

My good friend is flying down wed from here in nj. She is bummed about this but going to make the best of it. There are planning for DHS friday, what are some good ideas for indoor activities? They are staying at the BC so O guess they could also do Epcot that day and really explore WS. Stay safe everyone.

THIS!!!!

Or, what I was originally going to write:

Dear Irene, if you will promise to play nice and not hurt anyone or anything, you are welcome to come to Texas and stay as long as you would like.

We're kinda hoping that she goes up the coast (out at sea of course) so that she drops rain in North Carolina...we have a raging fire in the Dismal Swamp that's been going on for a couple of weeks now.

We are driving to the Outer Banks in NC from NY on Saturday morning and are hoping for the best...just waiting and watching right now is all we can do. Safe travels to everyone who is going to WDW this coming weekend ;)

If it does hit, Disney will clean up fast.

In 2004 (I think that was the year - around that year, anyway), they had a hurricane blow through Orlando and we came a day or two later. As we landed, gazillions of houses had blue tarps on them. Some appeared ripped apart but had yet to get the tarps. It was a sea of blue from the sky a month or two later, too. I always felt bad for those folks...and there were so many of them. :(

Driving out of the airport, there was crud all over the place. Branches, leaves. Side of the streets, all kinds of stuff.

Once we hit the WDW property - Bam! No debris. You could see, here and there, a fallen tree...but it wasn't nearly the mess the rest of the city was. Honestly, you could hardly tell anything had happened.

Disney cleans up and they clean up quickly.

We just changed our flights from arriving on Friday the 26th to arriving on Wednesday the 24th. Yup, I'm deliberately flying my family into an area where there will be an active hurricane. Feeling kinda stupid atm. Hopefully it won't hit the Orlando area hard.

The latest discussion at the National Hurricane Center states:
ALTHOUGH IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO BE CERTAIN...THE GUIDANCE TREND CONTINUES TO LESSENS THE THREAT TO SOUTH FLORIDA BUT INCREASES THE THREAT TO THE CAROLINAS.

DO NOT TO FOCUS ON THE EXACT FORECAST TRACK...ESPECIALLY AT DAYS 4 TO 5...SINCE THE MOST RECENT 5-YEAR AVERAGE ERRORS AT THOSE FORECAST TIMES ARE 200 AND 250 MILES...RESPECTIVELY.

This seems to make it less of a threat to Central Florida
