Dear Disney, Spring Break in Texas in 2013 is March 9, not March 15

Wow, I am surprised too. I would have been very tempted by an 8 day spring break cruise. But I am not at all tempted by the 6 day, I am not going to pay alot of money for less time on the ship. Just doesn't seem to make sense.

The only thing I can think of is that they know they will get high occupancy on that week no matter what itinerary they offer and they are trying to persuade travelers to pick the much less popular week after the break?:confused3 Wouldn't it be great if they released an explanation article along with the new itineraries??? But then we wouldn't have as much to talk about on the boards, ha ha.

Perhaps Disney thought that the parents would need an 8 nt cruise after being home with their kids for spring break???

If the prices are anything like the other cruiselines leaving out of galveston that week, I'm keeping my 7 night Fantasy cruise. I paid less for a cat 7 than an inside room on the other lines. I'm surely not paying more for a six nighter. Although I hate to make the drive to PC, the Fantasy is looking really good right now.

I don't think MND is being snarky at all. :confused3 I took it as they find the scheduling (and/or OP's way of stating it) funny. It would have been snarky if they had posted eyerolls.

Had it just been 1 reply w/ the :rotfl2:, but the person quoted the OP twice and used :rotfl2: multiple times. That just seems snarky/rude to me. Just my opinion. & Since I'm from TX, I agree w/ the OP; DCL missed the boat (yes, pun intended) by putting the 6-Nighter where most, if not all, TX schools have their Spring Break in `13.

March 9th is the start of spring break for all Texas public schools. I would have much rather had the option of an 8 night then vs a 6 night.

I wonder if DCL even knew this. In many states, each local school board establishes its own calendar. The spring break in one city doesn't match the one in the next city or county! Ah well, it isn't going to change now.

In our county(FL) they are not required to release next years calender until March of this year, We just took a guess booking next years spring break cruise when they came out and hope we won't have to cancel.

I agreed Disney probably didn't "know" and generally, Spring Break is all over the calendar for most states, but it would have been an easy phone call for Disney to make to find out this information. It is disappointing for those of us here in Texas. (not that the 8 night itinerary was very exciting anyway).

In Texas they actually passed a law a few years back that all spring breaks in each of the independant school districts would follow the same schedule. Even though the individual boards have not released their calendars yet the 2012/2013 schedule has been out for Texas since around Oct/Nov I think. I don't think it would have been that hard for Disney to figure out it. In addition its been the same week in March for as long as I've lived in Texas (which is pushing 9 school years now)

Do you know where this law is or where online you could see that the date is set?

I'm a Texas teacher. The only thing the law does is establish when our school year starts and how many days we have to be in session. As a result most districts have ended up choosing the same week for SB but they don't have to. Our 2013 calendar is set and Mar 9 is spring break.

. . . If it's anything like that in Texas, Disney would have no way to know the dates for breaks when they set the schedules.
DCL could have called a local Texas school district for the Spring Break dates.

I'll bet just about anything that it has to do with when they (DCL) could get port times. The ships are almost always completely filled, so I doubt they even considered spring break.

Ours here in AZ are all different. I've always been thrilled that they were earlier than the schools in California, because we could go to Disneyland and not have nearly the crowds we would have otherwise had.

Disney, you messed up! Spring Break is an excellent time for an 8 night cruise. But you scheduled the 6 night cruise out of Galveston for Texas' Spring Break, and the 8 night cruise for the following week. Maybe you thought Texas' Spring Break was March 15? :confused3

True, but mine would only have to miss the last three days of school to do the Trans-Atlantic out of Galveston, so they called that one pretty well.

Well, if they price them like our X-Mas cruise, all we can afford is a 6 night!

I will price this out tomorrow, but I have the Fantasy booked SB 3/13 and somehow think it will cost less. I'll be sure to let my TX cruise mates know.

Check out the 12/23/12 out of Miami, looks better than the Galveston one. Sad, now that she is in our backyard.

Here in Ca not only do Colleges have different spring break dates but also the HS and elementary schools have different dates.....

heck our HS is different from our elementary schools and it is in the same district :lmao:

Our HS spring break starts March 9th......this year we are cruising Mexico again on March 11th......

I think when DCL makes their dates they look at the whole country and get an average date......not just what that state is.....people travel all over from the US to take the cruises.....

With the Wonder leaving Ca for Mimi :sad1: As its new home port......we will be sailing from time to time out of Texas....Mexico is Mexico and people are still leary to cruise there....that is one reason Ca is out of the loop......

I for one if doing the Caribbean....want to cruise on a cruise that gives me CC....however not liking have to travel to Florida...but when we do that we hit up WDW for a week prior to our week cruise.

sorry that DCL did not do what would have worked out better for Texas :flower3:

Yes. Please let us know tomorrow. I will be on pins and needles. I agree with you about the price. I have a feeling that this cruise will be more than the Fantasy. We will see.

In conversations with many non-FL Residents at WDW, it seems for many areas, Spring Break is the week of Easter. They have good Friday off, then the following week. This is not usually the case in FL. Because so many spring breakers (college and otherwise) come to Florida destinations, including WDW, "Our" spring breaks usually do not coincide. That's a good thing! Our Season Passes were blacked out for what WDW considers the peak spring break times.

Mainly Late March and April for most schools up north it seems. I don't hold a pass currently but this is typically when passes are blacked out.

I'm pretty sure that the week of the 15th is Oklahoma's Spring Break week though. We are looking at possibly taking that trip.

Thanks for posting this. I am also a teacher and did not know about that law. I did some googling and couldn't find anything either.

I wish our calendars were set that far in advance, but I can usually predict them pretty close as we take the same days off most years.

Mine is the first week of April :D (im on my parents account!)

But this year were doing a huge trip to europe. my school is doing it (my parents are coming too, my brother in college has SB in march). the trip is 2 WEEKS! London, Paris, Rome, Athens. No disney cruise but still sounds funn! :)

Cruise is a MAYBE this year. But once 2013 opens up, we will really start looking at booking!

hey, "start looking and booking". im a poet and i didnt know it!!! :rotfl2:
