Deals to Australia?

Does anyone know of any good deals from Vancouver to Australia?

Ideally i'd like to at least see Syndey and Melbourne (to visit friends) and then maybe on or two other places over our 3 weeks off.

A friend of mine in australia told me that Quantas isn't doing well...is this true??

Quantas just had a great deal - 1600 for adult from TO. I believe there are some specials out of LA for travel in May, but that will be their winter. Flying from Vancouver is a lot cheaper than flying from TO, but it woudl really depend on when you plan to travel. I was hoping to go in Jan, but I don't think that is happenning now as the fares are way too high plus given the economy etc, I think I'll put it off for another year or so.

Doesn't Cathay usually have a deal on for like ~$1300 where you can fly to many parts of Asia (and sometimes it includes Sydney) as many times as you like as long as you go through Hong Kong?

We flew with Qantas using their Aussie Air pass in August and have nothing but good things to say about them! The air pass covered 3 internal flights in Australia plus the flight from Canada and was very economical! We flew TO to LAX by American Airlines and then Qantas direct to Brisbane. Our three internal flights were Brisbane to Cairns, Cairns to Sydney and Sydney back to Brisbane. (our son is going to school there!) We paid extra for our flights from Brisbane to Auckland NZ and even then flew Qantas. Wonderful experience! The aussies hold Qantas to higher standards then our NA carriers and what a difference. No delays, wonderful service, friendly crews! I would never fly to Australia on anyother carrier! My son and his DGF flew Air Pacific and they are being routed through 3 different NA cities on their return at the end of January. PM me if you would like further info!
