Deals for last minute ressies?

Has anyone had good luck with making last minute ressies? We cancelled on site ressies before xmas but since we do have the air already we are rethinking going IF we can really find a deal. Has anyone tried to get rooms on site or off 2, 5, 7 days out? I'd love to hear your success stories and suggestions.
