Dealing with attraction closures/refurbs

Well my girlfriend and I are inexplicably excited for our very first trip to Disney World, we're departing from California on January 8th. We're staying in POFQ from the 8th-17th.

We realized that by going in an off-season we might run the risk of having some rides closed down on us, but we didn't have much of a choice since this is the only time of year we really have time to go (not to mention the only time we could afford it!). Last night I checked the ride closure calendar on WDW website and found that both Splash Mountain and Rockin' Roller Coaster are both going to be closed for the duration of our visit. This was extremely, extremely disappointing to both of us since Splash Mountain is her favorite ride (at Disneyland), and Rockin Rollercoaster was the one ride I was looking forward to the most out of all the parks (I'm an adrenaline junkie and this ride seemed most "extreme").

I'm trying to figure out some ways to "cope" with these closures. I was thinking perhaps splurging on some Cirque Du Soleil La Nouba tickets to make up for the loss and add something exciting to the trip to fill the gap. Any other ideas? I know it seems silly to be so upset but we might not be able to go again for another 5-10 years so it's pretty sad that we'll be missing out on these attractions. :guilty:

Thanks folks.

Wow, sorry you will miss Rocknroller, nothing else like it.

If you are a Disney Coaster fan, however, get to Expedition Everest when AK opens and immediately fastpass it, ride it, ride it again--thru the single line if you have to--and then use your fastpass. It's as good as Rock...

Mission Space at Epcot is also a great thrill ride. If you have no issues with motion sickness, use the "orange" line; the green line otherwise...

Circe is wonderful, my favorite thing in the World. While you are in DTD, also make a point of going to the Comedy Club at Pleasure Island--improv comedy masterfully done.

Have fun!

It took my dh 8 years to ride Test Track. Either it was closed or we didn't go to Epcot etc, etc. Was it worth the wait? He says yes! We are going to be there in January too....I was sad to see Splash Mountain closed too!
BTW- Cirque is awsome! Go for the splurge.

You know, I wouldn't let RnR and SM being closed spoil my trip. There is just SO much to do at WDW, that a couple of closed rides will not certainly ruin your vacation. Believe me, we have been to WDW several hundred times since 1988, and there is always plenty to see and do even with a couple of attractions closed. Don't sweat it! :thumbsup2 You'll have a great time!
