Hi...my partner and I are heading for disney. She is profoundly deaf and when we made our room request at POFQ, garden view, they said would note that she needs visual alarms, clock, door knocker. I'm just wondering if they have rooms already set up this way or will they actually bring the equipment over and install it the day we arrive?

I'm asking because I saw a thread that was a few years old saying that the deaf person was placed in a "handicap accessible" room instead of a room with only the adapative equipment we need. Hoping someone can shed some light.:thumbsup2

Disney has kits for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing consisting of a TTY, a Visual door knocker, and alarm clock with a vibrator. Fire alarms are visual. They can be placed in any room. They may have some rooms set up already in some resorts but usually they just set up the kit in whatever room you are assigned.

Since your 9s profoundly deaf have you contacted Guest Services so they can send you a schedule of the interpreted shows and rides and parades (mostly shows). If not let me know and I can send you a contact email to get that. Also if you are eating at Hoop Dee Doo or The Luau you can request interpreters for that 2 weeks or more in advance.

Have a great trip

Thanks for the response. We were hoping we wouldn't be put in a handicap accessible room as others may need it. We are used to a kit being brought in and set up.

We have been in touch with disney. I can't remember the persons name, but she sent along the information for requesting interpreters. She was very helpful and I saved the email.

Thanks again! :thumbsup2

It was probably Maureen or someone from her office. Very nice lady.

People who need rooms with roll in showers make arrangements ahead of time to have those rooms blocked for them.
If some of the roll in shower rooms have not be per-assigned by the time the rooms are being assigned, those rooms go into the inventory and will be assigned to any arriving guests.

We need a room with a roll in shower, so have seen a lot of those rooms over the years. Occasionally, we get one that has both a roll in shower and some of the features for guests with hearing impairments.
They don't set up a TTY, but it has the strobe Fire Alarms and a door bell that flicks lights. I imagine that they have some rooms set up for guests with multiple disabilities.
