Hi everyone! I am currently planning a Disney wedding and am looking for any helpful hints to help make the trip easy and enjoyable for my fiance's grandmother who is deaf. She is very good at reading lips but she prefers to sign. Unfortunately the only other 2 people who will be there who also sign are my DF's mom and his aunt (who will only be there the day of the wedding). Grandma is traveling from Michigan so I'm guessing she will stay for atleast a few days, his mom will be able to help most of the time but I'm still a little worried. I've heard that sometimes there are sign language interpreters provided by Disney at some of the shows but not all the time:confused3 Is there a schedule of when the interpreters are present? Any helpful hints at all for making sure she has a great trip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't have time for a long reply before I head to work, but I can point you toward some further information.

In my signature, there is a link to the disABILITIES FAQs thread ( you may have seen it at the top if this board, but the link is sn easy way to get there).
Post #3 of that thread has links to some resources that will help you. Near the top of post 3, there are links yo the official WDW website's pages for guests with special needs. One of the links is information for guests with hearing disabilities that talks about the services and includes information about signed shows. Further down in the thread there are links to se other resources and past threads.

There are several fairly regular posters who use those services and can explain more, but these links should be enough to get you started.

Some of the "theater" attractions have Rear Window Captions. Fantasmic has several rows dedicated to RWC.

Disneyland has a caption device similar to a PDA. We tired it several years ago, with mixed results on Pirates and Haunted Mansion. This device was checked out from Guest Services on main street.

WDW has this also. It is called handheld captioning http://allears.net/pl/handheld.htm and is used in places where you're moving or when you're outdoors (e.g. Beauty and the Beast). Reflective captioning is used for indoor shows and for Fantasmic (since it's at night). Many (all?) pre-show movies have regular closed captions on some of the screens. I think the maps will show which attractions have reflective captioning.
