To buy direct from them is $200 less than purchasing from DCL. As anyone done this? How far was the walk? Does the deadliest catch tour have a representative to meet u close to the ship? Did you get back in plenty of time so not to miss the ship?

We bought direct. I remember the boat being right by where the ship was docked. Just walked down the pier a little ways. No issues at all. No need to be met by anyone. Hopefully someone else will confirm my memory.

DH, DD & SIL and I did this tour while on the DCL Alaska sailing a couple of years ago and it was definitely a favorite for all of us! But we did the one that also includes a crab dinner with the crew of the Aleutian Ballad and that crab was INSANELY good! There were only a few of us that had paid for that as well so we had lots of opportunity to ask questions and chat with the crew as they fed us our wonderful crab dinner. It was very pricey but we felt it was worth it. Do they even offer the dinner option outside of DCL's excursions?

I actually remember that some in our group purchased the tour direct and some purchased through the ship to use up their OBC, but we all walked over and boarded at the same time with no issues.

How far away it is depends on where the ship is docked. It is all along the same stretch of waterfront so not a very long walk regardless of where the ship is. Even if you book through Disney, once you meet onboard and they take you to the pier, you pretty much walk over by yourself (the person leading us down left and if there was someone guiding the front of the group, we never saw them, we walked over on our own). When we got to the pier the crab boat was at, there was a woman there waving us up that dock.

We have already booked this direct with the company for our 8/2016 cruise as we didn't do it in 2013 and it's been on my list! It saved a decent amount of money to book direct and everything I had read ahead of time encouraged it and I've also read as others mentioned, you end up in the same place as the DCL excursion. Here is some information direct from their website:

"When you arrive in Ketchikan via cruise ship, you will be in the quaint downtown area. There are 4 berths where the cruise ships tie up and all of them are within walking distance to our boat. Before departing your cruise ship in Ketchikan, ask a cruise line employee which berth you are located at for reference.

A representative from The Bering Sea Crab Fishermen’s Tour will be waiting for you at the bottom of your gangway (steps off of the boat) 30 minutes prior to the tour departure time. Look for the bright yellow jacket and the sign that reads, “Bering Sea Crab Fishermen’s Tour.”
