I think Jake Harris has blown it with the new capt. I am disappointed he is back to smoking (pot).

Jake is a kid trying to be an adult. Losing a father so young is hard enough to deal with, without the world watching every move you make. I really hope he takes some time and gets his life together.

Well its just that he promised his dad in the hospital as he headed off to rehab that this was it and he was getting clean for his dad and for himself.

As far as the world watching, Jake was back smoking pot before this even started taping, as you can tell he obviously brought the 'weed' with him … and the mystery still remains as to where he took off to the first day for 2.5 hours with the engine room crew member … things are now adding up.

Who I am going to feel badly for is Josh, as Jake promised his brother as well that he was done with all the drugs … he was setting his life straight once and for all. Wait until Josh hears from the new capt why Jake will not be allowed to steer/operate the CM……….

During the last episode, on the CM, the new captain was talking to Josh -- and mentioned that the boys each owned 12.5%, which means a combined 25%. I was taken aback when I heard it because I had thought Phil owned half that boat. Maybe he didn't. Or maybe he left the other quarter to someone else?

Watching the first episode, I just knew Jake wasn't clean. He seemed nervous and relieved when the drug test came back negative. I was hoping, but deep down, I just had that feeling.

I love this show, I've watched it since the beginning. Glad to have found you guys to share my thoughts with!

From what I read, Phil's share is held up in his estate. I wonder how long it is going to take to get it all reconciled.

I don't know if this is the reality show syndrome but I am not finding anything all that appealing about the new shows. The two new captains bored me. How can you get into port and so grossly underestimate your take? The older crews have gotten tiring. Shooting at buoys with automatic weapons. The Hillstrands and Colburns have grown old. Seriously. I just don't think I'll lose any sleep if I don't watch.

I'd have to agree with you on this. I think viewers will realize going farther into Season 7 that the pinnacle of the whole series was Season 6 Opies. Being a fan of the show for a long time, I'd hate to say it...... I think the best the show will ever be has already passed. =(

I, too, have been unwhelmed this season... last season was just so big. That coupled with all of the off season drama...

I wish they would spend less time on the new boats and more time on the guys that we want to see.

I still enjoy watching the show and will continue to do so.

Part of the problem with this season though is the choppy way in which they are following the different boats. Very little of the Northwestern and I dont even know why they are bothering with the Rambling Rose. That guy and that crew are pretty incompetent and bring nothing to the table. I would rather watch the North American and they werent all that interesting.

The Sea Brooke has been a solid addition though and I have enjoyed them.

I really dont like how the new CM captain keeps throwing that Phil is dead in the face of Jake and Josh though, its as if its the only card he has to play since they arent catching anything. Guarantee he is gone after this season.

That's what I'm thinking too.

I could have punched him when he told Josh that Phil did them a disservice by not teaching them how to fish... For crying out loud, I promise you he didn't know he was going to have a stroke! I think Phil had his own timeline for teaching the boys the ropes.

I'm hoping either Sig or Johnathon/Andy take the boys under their wing and help them out.

Exactly! Plus, seems like Jake held his own when they traded Jakes last season over on the NW! I just think the new captain knows he is in the hot seat and was trying to throw them under the bus.

I have noticed with the addition of the new boats, they only focus on a few boats each week. Last episode, they did not show the Time Bandit or the Wizard at all.

I felt so bad for Jake and Josh when the new capt. was yelling at them about Phil doing them a diservice by not teaching them. I think Phil believed in paying your dues and working your way up the ladder.

I DVRed the episode and just started to watch it so I'm only 10 minutes in, but the captain of the CM is really ticking me off. Don't rip on a dead guy to his kids. Seriously!

I only read the replies on this last page, but is it just pot that Jake is using now? I'm assuming its more at least when he's not on the boat?

Rach - that's what isn't clear.

Jake took a drug test before being told he could be on the boat this season and passed. Then he and Steve (the boat engineer) took off for a couple of hours.

The new CM captain said he could smell pot all over Jake one day when he asked to drive the boat.

I contend that both Jake AND Steve were blown out of their minds when they came back to the boat before they left port. Jake wouldn't take his sunglasses off and had a stupid grin on his face the whole time.

Phil had been begging them to step up for YEARS and they weren't doing it. Even before his first embolism he made statements about how he wouldn't always be there, and certainly when he came back after the embolism he said more than once his time was limited -- they replayed one of those scenes a week or two ago,of him saying "I don't have much longer."

Jake has always been a hard worker when he feels like it, but he also had plenty of slacker moments where Phil would yell at him -- remember the bowl of ice cream when everybody else was still fishing? Remember Phil screaming at him that he needed to EARN his way to full share before he dared compare himself to the full share guys? Or when he screamed at him that he could be anything he wanted to be but he had to WANT it and WORK for it and he wasn't doing that?

Even when Phil was alive, it wasn't a matter of him not teacing them, but them not being willing to be taught. Derrick's realizing that now --Jake and Josh approach knowledge about the boat as something that has to be given to them, as opposed to having Jake Anderson's attitude of wanting to grab every single opportunity to learn new things he can, and create opportunities whenever they haven't yet been offered to him.

Phil always said they had the potential to run the boat, but he never expressed confidence that they would, and more than once he indicated that he didn't know if they had the long-term interest in it that it required.

I agree I think they do this just to string us along. I really don't like any of the new guys. Kodiak is ok. But they haven't been showing Sig or the Hillstrands together in one show. Also the same with Keith. Even though he is a PIA. Still better than the new boats.

Yeah this Captain has to really stop with your Dad is dead stuff. I think the sons can figure that out themselves.

Derrick did call the cops on Jake at the end of November for drugs, they only found drug paraphernalia, and it didn't indicate where, so it could have been anyones. No charges were filed.

Jake is only 25, and Josh not much older. Most guys don't become captains until they are in their 30's at least. Jake proved he can hold his own when he was on the Northwestern.

Jake also mentioned on Dr. Drew he got addicted after a skating accident. Also, Jake for the NW is addicted too
