We wonder over to the pet supplies at Walmart today to restock on litter--and notice the wall of aquariums. So the girls love fish and we head over.

Much to my shock--dead fish in lots of the tanks---with one tank 2 dead ones being nibbled for lunch by their tank-mates. :scared1:

I'm sure it was an isolated walmart incident...but in the pet stores, they are constantly caring for the fish and I've never noticed several fish all dead at the same time let alone being there long enough to be nibbled.

Now I am joking about the sale of dead fish--but c'mon--do they not check on those tanks more frequently?

My kids love to see the fish too, and way more often than I'd like, they see a tank of corpses and cannibalism. I don't think I'd buy my fish there, they must not be very healthy...................................

Funny, I stopped by the fish the other night, first time in ages. Almost every single tank had multiple dead fish. (and most not recently dead looking either)

It's not an isolated incident. My son loves to look at the fish. Every Wal-Mart we go in we head to the fish. They always have somebody floating upside down. :sad2:

I had a friend who worked at Wal-mart acouple years ago..She said they take horrible care of the fish and don't feed them as often as they should, don't change the tanks that often, etc. I always feel bad when I see them, and I've bought some a couple times but they are always sick and die very fast. I wish they would just stop carrying fish.

Lisa...if you think that is gross...go to a Sports Authority or other similar store, and look in the fishing isle. They have :p (dead)bait...it is so gross.

That's a shame- and very gross! C'mon now- clean the tank out more often! If they're not going to take care of 'em- why have 'em?!?

Yuck! I prefer to fish with cheap hot dog slices, or popcorn shrimp or little smokies.

In my walmart there is never a tank without a dead fish in it.

I love animals. And I had fish for years. I've had hundreds over the years, all shapes and sizes. I've actally saved fishes lives before and I have nursed them back to health. I loved my fish. and when ever one would come to an untimely death I would remove the carcass, and remove teh living fish as soon as I found out. Then I would clean the filter and the tank. I think it is cruel to leave a living animal with a dead one. would you leave your dead dog in your back yard with your puppies? No. No you wouldn't. and if you did the animal cops would take your puppies away because you were treating them cruely. I see no difference in a fish and a puppy.

I also will not flush a live fish. That is so cruel. Fish can live for days and days in teh sewer but the chemicals will eat them alive. litereally. If you must put a fish down (which I've had to do ebfore) please freeze it. I have no problems with flushing a dead fish, just make sure its dead first.

I refuse to buy out of a tank that has a dead fish in it also. Fish die for a reason. and that reason is usually a disease or something. if one fish dies from a disease, the rest may catch it from being exposed to the carcass.

OMG--ewww...so that makes the fish incident all the worse since they were eating their fellow fish. :guilty:

Thank goodness they don't sell legged critters. They'd have a public health hazard in pet supplies.

Disneyaddict--they don't sell them in my walmarts at home--for some reason I only see this in big cities and this walmart was outside of DC. :confused3
