DD's strep/sore throat won't go away

My DD has been fighting strep/sore throat for about 3 weeks now. She was on antibiotics for 10 days and it came back on day 11. So she went back on a different antibiotics and has been taking them since Tuesday and she still has a sore throat, her tonsils are still huge with white spots. Yesterday she woke up with "dried blood" on the back of her throat, the "on call" Dr. didn't seem too concerened and it was gone by the time she could get an appointment 2 hours later, with the N.P. They did the Rapid StrepTest, which was negatvie. They also tested her for Mono and did a CBC. The monospot came back negative and her CBC came back with every normal.

She has been out of school all last week and probably won't be going back tomorrow. I am very frustrated. I don't know what to do to help her. She won't be able to see her regular F.N.P until Tuesday. At this point, I am ready for them to rip out her tonsils.

Anyone have any advice/help?

I was going to say it sounds like when my daughter had Mono but you say the test for that came back negative.

No advice but I would keep following up on this daily with the doctor until you get answers or it goes away.

I just wanted to let you know, the mono test can come back negative but apparently you can still have it, or at least acute epstein barr, which is the virus that causes mono. When my DD was 5, her mono test was negative, but the doctor said he thought she had it anyway, and said he getting a more extensive test, an epstein barr panel done. It had to be sent to California, and took ten days to get the results, but it did come back positive for acute epstein barr. Best of luck to you all.

Has she been tested for allergies? Especially if all the tests are coming back negative.

DS has sore throats, but it's from his alleriges. His tonsils enlarge, his throat is red and he'll even get the white spots. When he takes Claritin, it clears up

My DS was out of school all last week because of strep. He's going back today... I hope he doesn't have a relapse.

She hasn't been tested for any allergies. The original strep test(s) came back positive, so we know she had/has strep. I am also not completely convineced she doesn't have mono in addition to the strep, it takes at least 7 days for it to show on the Monospot tes. But I will ask about allergies to her F.N.P when she goes in on Tuesday. Today is day 10 of round 2 of this, so I am ready to 1-know what is going on and 2-for it to be over. She is missing way too much school from this, 3.5 day the first round and this is day 6 from this second round, in addition to days earlier this year from other illnesses, including other throat infections.
