dd's Ipod touch stolen or lost.. anyway to get songs back

you don't have to repurchase the songs but it is kind of annoying... if she gets a new ipod she has to sign in on her regular old itunes account that was on the old ipod then she will be able to download any songs she previously purchased on that account for free... it won't say it is free until you click to download and then it will say you have already purchased this item with this itunes account would you like to redownload it... you have to make certain that the songs are the exact same songs that she originally purchased some songs have different versions you can only get the version you had in bought in the first place.

trust me i know my ipods we have 4 touchs in my house and i just had to switch them all over to new computers and get all my songs/ softwear to go with them... also this works the same for any applications, ring tones for iphone, movies and videos. only a couple of times have i been recharged and that was because i chose the incorrect version of the song.

Did you buy it with a credit card? If so, file a police report on the theft, and then call your credit card issuer to find out if it is still covered by your Buyer's Protection Plan. You might be able to get it replaced.

My Son got his Ipod touch stolen however he was fortunate to get it back and the reason he got it back was because he had passed word protected it and the Kid disabled it and the only way to enable it again is to sync it with original itune library . So the kid who stole it had tossed it into a box and apparently was caught on vid stealing other things and police found it . They took it to his HS and they called me to Identify I took his box with the serial # on it and I got it back . He was lucky . I also crashed our computer and he lost all his library and purchases I called Apple and they allowed him to redownload all his apps and songs again that he had purchase they were really good about it.

Thanks for the responses! I had not thought of the credit card idea. I did use one, I just have to research their policy. Great idea!
That's good news about having to type your iTunes password again to buy something. He's changed the email and facebook passwords. I've also found that supposedly pawn shops are required to run serial numbers on electronics against a "stolen" database. Not sure what they actually do if someone's in there and it comes back stolen though. Anyway, definitely worth a police report being done. You never know...

Something similar happened to my son. His was stolen during gym. He was in advanced gym, only other class going on was a freshman class. He was talking with a boy he knew during lunch about what happened. He said that the boy who stole it offered to sell him an iTouch, my son's friend agreed and the boy was to bring it to school the next day. My son gave him his serial number, his buddy checked it against the stolen one he was going to buy. It was my son's, kid told the thief "hey this is my buddy's," he gave it back to my son. The thief couldn't do anything.

He did have it password protected also. It didn't matter. If the person knows what they are doing, they can be broken. My son had to go and reload everything.
