We usually don't ask what is going to be played as I like to wait and see. As the band played on, and this was a combined band/chorus concert but the older band that dd is in played last, all of a sudden I caught pieces of America the Beautiful...and I wondered and wanted to stand - it just felt such a right time to do it - but I didn't. Then the director looks over to the doors and in walks two boys from dd's class - one with the American flag and one with the Illinois flag and then.....the Star Spangled Banner - I know there were few dry eyes when they were done, including the lonely tear that fell from my eye. It was beautiful - it was slightly unplanned - but they added more patriotism than had planned and made it a truly wonderful and meaningful concert - this concert has been planned since January - the music picked out - the kids practicing. Little did they know then what was going to be prevailing the concert. Very Proud MOM!!!

Your story gave me the shivers. What a wonderful thing to be a part of!

Aren't things like this amazing? I think it is wonderful.

just picturing it. Sounds absolutely beautiful.

Something similar happened at my dd's choir concert tonight. They put out seats in the foyer of the school for the concert because the acoustics are really good there. The lights were out because the choir members were carrying candles. We were all seated and waiting for the choir to come down the hall from the back of the school when we heard them start singing on the way up to us. They were singing the national anthem. It was very beautiful to see the choir coming up in perfect lines carrying the candles and singing in such beautiful voices. This was added to the concert at the last moment (at Ashli's suggestion actually, she wanted to pay a tribute to Titus and the rest of our armed forces). A very moving moment. Some of the choir members were tearing up as well as the audience.

OMG Keli...and now I'm tearing up - how beautiful that must have been!!! Bravo to Ashli for the idea!

At DD's last chorus concert they sang the parts of each military hymn and by the time they got the the Marine hymn I was sobbing so hard DD had no problem finding me in the crowd!! I just couldn't help it!!

What a beautiful tribute!!
