i have 3 kids ages 3-9. Two of them are very light eaters. Wondering if DDP would be worth it? If we don't do DDP, would they be able to share meals at TS, or only QS?

Also are there tools to compare or should I try to calculate myself?

Thanks!

For children, I think the DDP is a very good value. IIRC it is only abuut 12 per day. Can you feed your kids for that a day? If you are taking them to character meals it is an even better value.

If you want t determine if theDDP is a good value for your family you first need to know what you think you will eat while in Disney. I would go to allears.net and check out the restaurants, as well as the prices. Figure out how many TS meals you will be taking the family to, and how much those meals will cost. Also add in lunch per day if you will be eating a lunch or breakfast.

Kids meals are a value in Disney, unless you are taking them to the buffets and the character meals. Those are expensive.

My family has always been happy with the value the DDP, but it does not work for everyone, so it really is best to start with pices and an honest plan of how you want to dine.

Sharing is not allowed at buffets and aycte restaurants, but you can share at other restaurants. Portions tend to be huge. The menus at allears.net will help you get a sense of what each restaurant has. Use a DDP calculator to figure out whether the DDP will save you money.

The biggest factor is determining DDP worth for kids is the character meal. If you're planning on doing two or more of these on your trip, you'll probably come out ahead with the DDP.

Also, even with the DDP, they can share a meal except at buffets/aycte places. Now that would mean you have extra kid's meal credits, and you would have to get creative in how you use them, but it could mean one or two more meals.

Raised 4 children myself :). I must say - while I HATE DDP for what it does to otherwise fine restaurants? THIS is a case FOR DDP....

Children get hungry - a LOT. DDP tends to be geared toward food volume (perfect match).

They can't share at buffet, family style, or pre-fixe meals. The price of those types of meals alone are usually more than one day of DDP for the child - basically you are getting a discount on that meal and the QS and snack for free. Adults can use the kid's snack credits if they don't use them. We have often found in our calculations that because we have 2 children on the DDP we end up saving money even if the adults would break even or slightly less. For instance, this trip we are doing 4 buffet/family style meals so it is definately worth it for us. Here is a breakdown of ours. Kids 2016 DDP is 20.98. Chef Mickey's Dinner - 21.81, Cape May Dinner - 23.42 Garden Grille Dinner - 26.62 Ohana Dinner - 23.42 (You can see the other current prices in this handy thread: http://www.disboards.com/threads/buffet-character-shows-aycte-pricing-as-of-08-10-2015.3108466/ )They also get their QS and snack "Free" those days. So when one of them begs me for that little bag of Doritos which I would normally never spend that amount of money on, I can smile and say, "Of course!" and they get what they want because I'm not worried about the value for them on those snack credits as their meals alone make us come out more than ahead. It makes their vacation so happy for them and I don't have to say NO all the time.
